The last thread I did had the download link of the video done, but it was kinda confusing because it had 2 topics in it  Also the topic title was misleading.

Here are the download and streaming links for my Empires Community Promo Video, the first of hopefully more.

    Streaming (Google Video)

Note: You need to download the "Windows Helper and Merger Application" to merge the files you download. No Spyware/Malware/Adware/Viruses, it's just to compress the files.
    Download (Badongo)

The quality is kind of bad, but whenever I tried to compress with DivX (at diffrent settings) I got 103 Mb each time. I'm working on getting a higher quality version that isn't 1.31 Gb (the original size of file).

Not bad. I never found the action of the first bits dramatic enough to fit the music and the metal kinda detracted from the whole thing.

Perhaps if there were some explosive tank on tank action with the metal, it might've been justified.

    ---

    Still, isn't half bad =D

I have to ask: Did you compress the sound also? Something I've seen people to forget at times...

Edit: now that I finished watching it: I liked it. I have to ask about that badlands bit: was I in the game on that round? It seems disturbingly familiar. Also that part in crossroads when the tank gets a rocket in its arse while escaping past that arty, it seems very familiar.

It was quite good but I felt the camera angels were kinda jittery when you were in spectator mode.
I'm not saying it's bad, just a bit of light contructive critscism.
    I felt like there needed to be more action like.. real in your face;
"WOW BOOM BANG KEEYA WOO FIRE BANG SHIOOOO WAAAA BOOM!"

Saying that, I'd love to have a go then you can bash at mine :P

Just watched it, I'd say it was good especially considering you're experience. Can't wait to see some more.

Just some ideas to keep in mind for the future, I'd like to see one that's less serious and more "action" packed so to say. With more exaggerated combat, stage it if you have to. EX: a jeep flipping through the air and crashing into a barracks and exploding it. Also, after you have some fun/action scenes mix them up with some more "actual" gameplay. Like stuff you'd actually expect to see when you play, like show a scene of a comm giving orders like "Destroy this Target" which may be a tank then fade into a scene with a grenadier jumping it from behind... maybe on Escort. Also I wouldn't mind talking to you about some ideas and helping "act" them out. But this kind of stuff would definately have to have all present players being organized and planning it out.

    I liked it.
The only suggestion I have is to make the second part into a 2 minute teaser to wet peoples appetites - someone who is unfamiliar with the game won't be able to apprechiate what goes on during the first ~4 minutes of the video, thus maybe switching off.

it MAY just be the quality of the video influencing my opinion, and not the content. I found the beginning a bit melodramatic. Take a look at bodrick's promo, it has several good action clips strung together. I can't find it in the forums, someone PM him to post it. I agree with theBlind- people are gonna want action first.

I agree with the others here. While your video has a very good representation of Empires in its entirety, you will have noticed that short, awesome video clips with lots of (preferably quite unique) action going on interest the viewers greatly. I propose a few clips with vehicles, and, if possible, a jeep flying over a few crouched infantry units (in the infantry viewpoint). This once happened to me in emp_crossroads, and it looked so absolutely damn cool.

maybe have parts of the next acted, like a heavy tank vs heavy tank combat cene

or an apv (for example) chased by arty shells and making a spectacular jump in the end (or have it getting hit )

then paste real game peaces in between
like a tank rush getting spanked by rocket turrets
or a commander giving a squad orders

think like hollywood movies, then ppl will see action and keep watching

It was good, but I didn't like the black pauses between the clips in the first half, I thought they were a bit long.

Ah thank you guys so much for all the input! What I have gathered is:

    1. Spice up the action. A lot.
    2. Either use a diffrent kind of music, or fit the clips better to the music.
    3. Make a casting call :D

All of those are no problem, and my original goal was to have this movie be epic. Bodrick's is like on the 6 or 7th page in the original Community Promo Video thread, and his is just basically short clips of action one after the other. The black pauses were mainly there to make sure that when there were gaps in the song (the music went from somber and quiet to victorious very fast; btw I used about 4 songs) I would use a fade to introduce the next scene and the next part of the song at the same time. I apologize for the length of those, but I was getting the music and video together. That's why I think I should work on the music bit.

If you guys want to try and find some music that you think would work. go to
www.freeplaymusic.com and look for a song there. All of that music is royalty-free and these videos are along their terms of useage.

yeah, its definately not a trailer. its not a bad video at all, but its a bit long and some of the sections go on for a little too long. remember, that we're trying to attract people, so, as people have said, just focus more on the action.

Maybe we should all set a time and date for MASSIVE acting session? where we can actualy get some epic battles done? And get the action needed?

If anyone organizing this Im in :p

i say keep the music the same, but for the first part with the dramatic, serious music show the NF beating the BE (the start of the uprising) and then with the metal at the end have the BE winning (the counter offencive).

also show the names of the maps either acroos the middle as they first pop up, or in a corner the whole time.

and i dont think the blank screens last too long.

all in all, extreamly good for a 1st release. work on it a bit and it will truly be kick ass.

Yeah. I think I'm going to write a few cfgs to have a really smooth camera view.

    Awesome, thanks beerdude.
And Mr Quackums, I'll consider that idea for the next video. I think I'm gonna go less dramatic and keep the video to about 3:00. That's about half the time of this video. I also will use diffrent music, maybe to the plot you suggested. Vacation starts tomorrow though for a week, I will work on it then.
