im talking about that youd need to be blind to not see that empires has no future on source. or where there other intentions behind it? (deis irae) a problem i see though is the increased work and required knowledge artist will face when they want to create "modern games". if anything, on the coders side its only gotten easier (for gameplay mechanics) ...
Other intentions. Empires can get at least a couple more years out of source I think. Valve have to update the mod SDK eventually. But I don't care either way to be honest, I'd just love it to keep going as long as possible, and if it inspires someone to make a new version on another engine, then that's awesome.
well, i should have been silent then. anyway, even if it lasts 2 years, thats probably the minimum timescale it needs to recreate it ... i really hope you find enough artists mootant
Well we could always switch over to the L4D engine.. its got all the same stuff plus some nice extras...
No we can't, otherwise we would have already. You have no fucking idea what mods actually have access to.
I got a few people i know from school who are in Game Design classes. Got them to play the empires, they all loved it. They are talking to others hopefully we can get one or two people who know what they are doing.
So are you definitely going through with your plan, or are you just blowing smoke up our asses? Cause it does not make sense to have two separate projects going at the same time with similar goals, so I would not mind dropping what I am doing, cause there is another project I want to do. However I believe this is just you being indecisive again, cause from the time I first started this project, there has been people who have said lets use UDK, lets use NEO Axis, lets buy a source license, lets use Id tech 4. When in the end no one has actually went through with anything except me, and Megel. In all honesty I think your just trying to undermine my project for some sort of petty reason, but whatever, we will see what you have in two years.
Has no future? Why does it need a future. Empires is awesome and fun as it stands. The engine doesn't limit whether our game is good or not, look at Sven Coop, it's still going strong after all these years and it's fuckin' goldsrc.
