if someone still makes those amounts of profit at this time of economic resession and is dissapointed i believe it signs that they make too much profit when things go normally

By lowering the bar so far with Vista, even Micro$oft couldn't out do itself with a worse operating system.

Correction: They did such a bad job of screwing up Win7 that you think it's decent.

And they keep whining about software piracy...

The true key to Micro$oft's stupidity is product activation (which pirates just strip off). Would you go to a supermarket where if you buy an orange, you have to call them to find out if you get to eat it? I don't think so.

Profits up? Doubt it. Final retail build has already hit torrent sites.

There is no such thing as too much profit.

    Rule of acquisition number 129.

I don't get people being resentful of the success of others.

Microsoft is a big company, high maintenance costs require big money.

This attitude, that companies are "evil" for making a profit, is exactly what scares away any sort of productivity if it becomes the norm.
Which is the case of my own country, Sweden.

I guess Chris and Marshall Mash are a couple of conservatives. The rest of us think its incorrect for a few people to garner massive amounts of wealth unless they're doing something for the public good.

wealth is the motivation for evolution and progress. If you can't raise huge business empires, whats the point of trying? The businesses keep trying to outdo themselves and the competition, and in the end, the average life gets improved. Capitalism works

the thing is, every dollar Microsoft makes above average to other companies is a dollar that is subtracted from the economy in favour of microsoft company revenues

With the same one sided argumentation you can also proof that
national-socialism or communist based despotism works...

Microsoft supply software for almost every computerised application in existence. They make games consoles, any game you've played which was on an XBox or a PC would not have been possible without microsoft, and probably if you played it on linux it was developed using windows software and APIs.

Successful companies become successful by producing good products, nobody wants to use linux because you need to a degree in computer science to get it to do anything, nobody wants to use apple because nothing works on apple because everyone is busy making things for windows. Windows is easy to use which means more people can use it, therefore it is the better system.

What is good for business is good for everyone, businesses create jobs and make money, microsoft makes shittonnes of money for itself but it makes even more for everybody else, microsoft makes computers possible so they keep all the computer hardware manufacturers afloat, all the IT support companies afloat, all the internet porn companies afloat, every business which relies on its IT relies on the companies which make their computers work, and microsoft is chief among them.

I think absolute captialism is silly, just as I think absolute socialism is silly, but I don't see any reason to hate microsoft for doing well.

I am neither conservative nor liberal, nor am I in the middle, I agree with both groups on some issues, but I don't agree with either about everything, usually I either agree, disagree, or have a completely different idea. I don't know what the word is for that and I don't really see that it matters.

Microsoft is PART of the economy, when a company makes money they don't just throw it in a giant money bin and never move it again, not even banks do that although I imagine that's the impression they like to give, banks invest money you give them, they work because they hope lots of people don't try to draw money out at the same time, which is why when lots of people do that the bank collapses.

Companies spend their profits on becoming bigger companies, making better products or improving their manufacturing abilities, or branching out into new areas. Any expansion of a company improves the economy because they open more shops or create more offices and subsequently more jobs, more things to sell and for people to buy, new markets etc.

to a specific size, then it turn into sluggish pos, that will use illegal means to stay on top, because they would get eaten in fair competition.

EG: Media companies suing torrent and others, hittin youtube vids and so on.
They can buy entire trial,force/bribe/change law to keep status quo.
Artists won't even see a penny, but those companies will have another millions that fat board can spend on having sex with 13y-old boys.

Stealing shit is illegal, I'd be a bit annoyed myself if people stole shit from me.

Music is a business and if lots of their revenue is being lost to people stealing shit then what exactly do you expect them to do about it.

I think they are pretty dumb about how they try to stop it, but the intent makes perfect sense.
