    This deal DOES NOT include Source SDK. Therefore, you can't play Empires with it.

    Well to put it in laymans terms:

    If I give someone the HL2 and EP1 gift from the orange box, will they be able to play Empires?

    Probably.

    I am pretty sure you get the SDK and SDK Base if you install HL2

    Guys. Owning ANY Source game gives you access to the Source SDK Base, which Empires runs off of. So owning ANY Source game lets you play Empires.

    Not the free offers. The ATI offer thing gives you only hl2dm, not source sdk base. If you want source sdk base, valve has to get some money.

    As long as the gift is originated from a purchased copy of any source based valve game it has Source SDK Base included.

    Since this thread is based on false information, i'm just going to lock it. If you have new information regarding being able to play mods without paying, but owning a Source engine game, then PM me so i can unlock the thread.
