plasma should set infantry on fire (awesome) and set buildings on fire and do slight damage over time (awesome arson) this makes plasma into the cannon equivalent of bio with a bent towards buildings instead of armor

Woot, I had the very same idea a couple of days ago. Would make plasma weaponry awesome, and we have these nice fire animations. Make them infantry crackelin'! Shouldn't last as long as bio though but be around that DPS range. Dunno about buildings but would be interesting, too. +100
Sounds interesting indeed. What about making the screen pulsate red-ish for 5 secs (doing whatever damage you'd like per sec), making it look like you're on fire. Player models on fire though, looks stupid.
plasma is like arty on slaughtered. once you research it you better hope you team really is better then the enemy. this change wont make much of a difference as long as it is "either this or that weapon"
It's plasma, it not igniting infantry is silly. So in terms of logic it does a hell of a difference even on money or slaughtered. If you throw a molotov you would like it to ignite thing aswell. (Instead of making the infantry farting dinosaurs which can eat you or your tank in seconds, because you've a plasmaMG in your only MG slot) And it's about FUN. Igniting infantry is FUN. FUN is what makes games successfull, balancing is secondary, but even in terms of balacing, there's no downside to give a weapon with so little use an alternative tactical use.

This makes absolutly no sense at all. If it were true there wouldn't be any new games developed ever, but old ones brought to the point where everything is perfectly balanced. Games are played for fun, not for perfect karma and everything in balance. What spartacus said. New ppl join, see plasma and think shit must be setting ppl on fire, and it doesn't, just one of many dissapointing things in empires. Also is biomg an anti-infantry mg? hardly so, so why should plasma with the same DOT be?

Bio is an anti infantry mg it almost autokills any infantry it hits once and its not that hard to tag every infantry you see with a decent ping. You want 2 of those mg's ingame? Giving the apc/tank driver a weapon that enemys can only counter with teamplay (infantry needs an engy or healthcrate and a tank needs an engy if he is not one himself)? One person without teamplay forces teamplay is not a great way to make a game fun, especially if an easy task of one side forces the other side to do a, in comparsion, very hard task to counter it. Balance = Fun, if you dont have balance, it feels frustraiting especially in a competitive enviroment. Look at which competitive multiplayer games are the long lasting ones like starcraft, its usually the most balanced ones.
