Different idea inspired by That crappy thread. Game changing solution: Every VF has a general timer (like heat). The more tanks are build within a short time, the more heat the VF gets, until it locks itself to cool down. So if your team is in late game and wants to do a huge vehicle rush, it either needs more than one VF or people have to wait to build tanks. The lock/cooldown phase/heat of the VF is displayed as soon as you enter it. pro: -to do a huge tank rush, the rushing team is enforced to have a larger base (more VFs) -slightly more RTS -fixes escort tank spam contra: -does not fix griefers, that spam tanks until VF locks -if implemented, will probably look exactly the way I didn't want it More contra will be done by YOU! Start flaming now.
Even though most rts require you to have like 2 or 3 factories simultaneously making tanks and stuff, base space in empires is limited so that only 1 of each building can be made, you can't set two vfs in the same base space without being a problem.
I like it. It intuitively brings RTS elements into Empires. Although I doubt it would ever be communicated to the player well. When the VF is overheated, you could have the little screen flash a red-backgrounded warning and drop sparky particles where vehicles normally pop out of. Of course, in Empires, we hate actually teaching the player. If this mechanic were ever implemented, you would probably get a measly chat message when you try to build a tank.
well if its overheated then your custimization menu would allow you to customize but, at the top say the VF is currently overheated/com locked.
Or Option two: have 2 bases and both get used. (Maybe needs a VF overheat sign on minimap) I'd be fine if it just looked like this or like the on screen text in emp forest, when the middle is contested, but text being top of screen. Yeah, but the current way of displaying that the VF is locked sucks, why can't we have a huge text, that is floating above the VF and can be seen by the whole friendly team, but not by enemies? would lift empires to an overall nicer look, wouldn't it?
it would gel with those icons above buildings...whatever they were for... and it would also gel with the icons for attack/defend an area that comms were gonna get.... sometime.... what happened to that stuff?
Text, in general, sucks. It looks gross and breaks immersion. Check out Dead Space's HUD, or lack of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DmsDICPnjg Empires might not be able to get that deep, but refraining from blasting text messages across the screen is a start.
The current vf lock indicator fills a need to comminicate important information (fv lock or unlock) in the most unobtrusive manor possible with the least amount of code possible. At one point, I read something about the hardcore WoW players having more of there screen taken by addons than by actual game graphics. Do a search for "wow addons" and look at the image results for some good examples. As an fps, empires needs a lot of unobstructed space to be able to see what is going on, aka why people hate nf jeeps/be rpg. A few changes that may be more likely to get added: Global heat/global cooldown pool- Each vf adds 100 heat cap, -2heat/sec Each chassis adds its own amount of heat Add a vf heat bar to top ui.
but I want to feel like a commando-bot in C&C 1 and see green bars and messages floating in the sky! ove:
the bar along the top of the screen? gawd. vf lock/unlock + heat status would fit in there.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................buuuut im not convinced vf heat is necessary-and i'm the boss around here, dont forget.
So dropping 2 VFs out in the boonies can let one more strategically placed VF perform 3 times as well? That's not terrible. I could live with that.
