OMG Empires is now officially...

Two point zero five gigawatts big (2.05 GB) and it has a price over 9000$ (or whatever it was.)

(That size comes from RC 7 till RC 28 with all the hot fixes and other stuffs which belong to come with RCs.)

THAT MEANS EMPIRES IS NOW OFFICIALLY A FULL RETAIL GAME!!! (Which you can buy from steam if you have enough money.)

(This belongs to black hole but I don't want to let people know that OMG EMPIRES 2.0 IS SO BIG NOW! and get scared and then they won't download it.)

is the large download a negative issue, and can it be circumvented somehow, if this is the case? Not that I could do anything to rectify the situation.... I was just wondering if the 2 gigs is a good thing or a bad thing, weedy.

 

2gigs means its gota be good, unless its from micro$haft then its 99% bloatware.

 

Heh, the download won't be that big. The accumulation of all patches and hotfixes does not equal in the resulting 2.0 RC final. A lot of stuff is double in it. Changes to the maps is what makes it big.

 

2 gigs may turn some people off unless we get a torrent up and all of you seed it.

 

The full RC27 installer Evan made was only about 700MB IIRC, and it's probably got some extra leftover stuff in it as well.

 

oh, well if the full thing is under a gig, that won't be a problem :D

And Buttery Lobster, Krenzo will make a full installation packet which will include all the changes and RCs within it so it won't be that big. Maybe around 600-700MBs as Evan's full RC 27 installation packet is now.

Don't worry about the size, it will be a lot more smaller but currently it is that big because of all the RCs which you have to have to be able to play it currently.

 

If the size of the game is a concern, there's always torrents :].

 

I've downloaded 11GB worth of Oblivion, plus all expansions before, via torrents, so I doubt getting Empires at 2GB big will be much of an issue to my connection at this point.

 

11GB of Oblivion? Fully installed with all expansions and a lot of mods it's not even 7GB.

 

I had over 4 gigs of mods running with my oblivion :D

I don't think it'll be 2gig. Most of that size is from the updated maps in each RC release. Just look at RC 29, only ~8mb because it didn't include any updated maps.

 

The empires folder currently stands at around 1.89GB =)

 

That's not an installer though.

I mentioned to Krenzo and the gang back in the RC7-10 era that i'd be happy to officially mirror and seed the download on my server(s) for the Europeans. At this point i'll be removing the current http://eth0.uk.net/downloads/Empires_1.08_RC/ area for the RC's (as we are just on or two RC away from done, as i understand) and replacing it which the single download.
