I know mentioning the phrase 'engine change' on the forum means you have to say three hail marys and do an act of contrition but from everything I've read this would seem to be perfect for empires. It looks damn good, it has an optimisation system which was specifically stated to be better than PVS for exterior areas, it's fully dynamic lighting and stuff which means models and world geometry are less diametrically opposed, meaning empires structures could have lights on them!!! It has all the features the orange box has, it's sourcelike which means mapping shouldn't be too hard and possibly even directly portable, all the materials and models can be reused, and the code is Lua based which presumably is easier to do than C++, it's already an RTS/FPS mix so most of that code can probably be reused, AND IT HAS AI INCLUDED IN MULTIPLAYER FOR BUILDING STRUCTURES!!!. I mean it's like they designed the game engine based around this mod. I really wish this had been out when empires moved to source.
chris as much as i ahte you, you amke a perfect point if the game wereEVER to move, this should be where to
As well as I. Will be a l337 black marine bitch ^_^ Fucking loved NS. Can we port to the NS engine? >_>
Well I'm guessing they didn't jam a shitload of crappy softening onto the shadows and depth of field and a bunch of other silly things. The trailer to me looks a hell of a lot like doom 3, it's not that hard to make a game look good just using normal and specular maps combined with good modelling and a basic dynamic lighting system, especially when the game is dark and indoors. Of course you can add all the fancy special effects on top of that and it'll look better but the basic neccessities don't have to be difficult to run in order to look good. Also do note that just because it's rendered in the engine does not mean it's going to look exactly like that ingame, they have a 'cinematic editor' which I'm presuming is more or less the difference between TF2 and the 'meet the' videos.
Pre-ordered the special almost right as it was announced :D Well worth the money and frankly, it's also a payment to NS which has given me sick many hours of gameplay, so even in the extremely unlikely event that NS2 will suck, I won't mind too much. Then again, how will NS2 ever fail?
