This is just awesome, i had no idea the source engine was capable of this. I really hope it is real and not just faked with an animated model. Could definately create some interesting gameplay.

It's a shame it's retail though, cause I know that I'll never be paying for a mod.

I can imagine the smaller aliens having the ability to burrow into infested material and be able to ambush marines like that.

Wait a second that's not only normal mapping and phong like "Flayra" says in the video. :D That seems like something you can do with metaballs(and other meta-objects) in modeling programs... I wonder if the basic stuff is the same...

Depends how you look at it. I can't recall another game that has additive geo modding.

It's pretty damn awesome, but what if this stuff grows across or into a vent or crawlspace? Would it just be impassable? I'd also like to know how they intend to actually have this affect gameplay.

I wonder how much bandwidth it would eat up, too...

it'll probably act like an two-way intestine and butthole, it'll suck in the lil skulks and poop em out -=D!!!

hehe but damn, this has got me interested in NS again << then again, i always thought NS was always unbalanced since it was released -=/ anyone else think that?

also they should do that hud like aiming thing from Tactical Smod for the marines, that'll make it 3x creepier to play them o.o cause your view would feel so limited.

Flayra said something about entities triggering infestation on that video, so my guess is that mappers can affect where it will happen and even though they are procedural same values should result in same type of infestation, thus they could make it client side with only the base values transferred when the entity is triggered. And that would mean almost zero increase in overall network lag. Of course this is all uneducated speculation, but ... :D

I always hated lerks and those big biped creatures. I couldn't use either, and they were both just about impossible to kill >:(

    That would be subtractive :)

My biggest concern with this would be getting people stuck in the infestation while it's generating and making it hard for skulkies to run around on walls without falling off :P

By the looks of it the infestation is just a graphics thing, and doesnt actualy effect physics collisions...
