How about a guiding voice when you join a team You have join the ____ Faction Choose your class, skill upgrades and weapons that apply to your class Choose your spawn point highlighted by a Red/Bluse dot Also a Vehicle Creations menu voice. This is the Vehicle Creations menu. Here you can selete which vehicle to spawn.... If need an indepth voice to guide player through the whole vehicle creation menu so that noobs know they need armor on there tank.
Oh yes the idea to have a voice that annoys out people too stupid to open the options menu, that's a great idea. Maybe it would even help people to manage the most intuitive parts of the game.
I like it how you used the "fail" meme to describe how much you dislike memes Perhaps you're also a bit unacquainted with what it actually means, so go look it up
let the omniscient wiki bring you enlightenment - may its knowledge shine upon you! http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme i like the idea of memes, it really is the greatest meme of all :D
Language is a meme o0 I understood memes to be the idea transmitted and not the media used to do so. And yes, I do not think memes do spread in the way described by Dawkins, thats why I stated the concept fails.
the words are the memes, imo they fully qualify. there is no need to verbalize to communicate. language is learned, the abilitiy to communicate, interprete and imitate is inborn. also something on topic - i think its mainly the comm mode and player interaction/communication that needs to be more accessible for new players. ill post a thread concerning this in abit, i just need to finish writing it up. prepare for a "tl;dr also shutup flasche" thread
Whatever the wiki says, "memes" have changed to become something enitrely different. They are usually a reference to something, and have for whatever reason have become very popular to post on forums. They rarely (read: never) contribute to the threads they are posted in but can often bring lols and giggles.
We already have that in writen form, I don't see the point to annoy newbs by mumbeling 3 lines every time they enter/touch a VF/Rax/Radar/Armory/Repairpad ...
I actually think this could be implemented rather well, if someone is good at voicing. You could have it activated like an AI to add atmosphere to Empires: "GREETINGS! Welcome to the Vehicle Factory." "Constructing..." (out comes tank) or "I see you wish to design your own vehicle. First you must pick the weapons..." ------ Anyways, as to the practicality: I think it would be really helpful. I know myself that I had a LOT of trouble with empires at the beginning (back in 1.07 or whatever) due to the damn customization tab failures. You could always turn it off. Unless you need a spoken tutorial on how to work the options menu, too...
