The time it took to draw that.. it could have been modeled. Looks neat though. Probably because of the stylizing.
So long as it is designed well and modeled well, anything could work really. Similarity to your preconception of what Empires should look like is probably of tertiary importance. A little bit of texturing with NF-similar materials, and voila, it 'seems like empires'.

You're surprised? Remember just how unstable xs.to was when you were linking me to cover art stages? It was rare I could actually look at them while you were online and give feedback.
I'd say remove those leg-like things from the front and adjust its color theme to fit NF and it would be one option. Currently it looks just way too industrial. Like a real hardcore destroyer factory which eats soldiers and shoots vehicles out of it to enemy units.
Really nice... I think I'd be willing to play NF more often if all their models were in that style. The less like the existing NF models the better!
Looking at that I get the urge to shout, "Peace through Power!" Then again I just got done beating Kane's Wrath and reinstalling Tiberian Sun...
