Hey, Saw that Krenzo posted something about the community remaking models and textures. Here are some new NF 1st person hands that I did over the past couple of days. I made the low Polly mesh in Maya, (comes in at 463 Polly's, or 924 triangles per hand), then made a high Polly version in Maya and zbrush for the normal map. I painted the textures from scratch in photoshop and zbrush. There is also a specular map on it, but can take it off if its not supported :D/ I have not rigged them yet, but was going to do that and some test animations tomorrow. Does any one think they need changing in any way, or are they ok ?? Thought it would be good to get some C&C, from every one before I enter them into the Krenzo comp
Looking good! Only critics i have to offer is that the leather (well it look like leather, color-wise) is too flat and smooth. Maybe ad a fabric or leather pattern to it. Another thing is the polygon placement .. the fingers have to bend in animations (like holding / firing a gun) so they might not look good with such a low polycount. Maybe divide the fingers at the joints 1-2 times. and btw. Specular Maps are supported. Alpha Channel of the Normal Map.
Hey, thanks for the replys :D Gunnery Seargent Hartman, thanks for the crit, will work on your texture sugestions tomorow. I have done some rigging tests, and I dont think that the lack of geomitry around the points of deformation will be a prob. Here are some shots of the rigging tests, and the high polly model.
Looks excellent - only have a few comments: -The skin tone is extremely pale - I have pale skin however its not that white -The red tones on the existing gloves/uniform might suit the main colour better than the brown? -"NF" on the glove doesn't make much sense as it's just a name they made up for themselves and not a clothing brand Maybe you could do a made-up logo of some sort.
Well, seeing as Northern faction uses "relics" of the past, they shouldnt be very well equippped, such as names on their clothes and so on. Only idea I could think of is that they might spray paint a logo to their vehicles just for the principe of having a logo to be proud of. But starting to make clothes with logo's and stuff, I doubt they even have time for that And about improving the models and animations, EVERYTHING needs improvement. The weapon models are very dull and boring to look at, not very fancy at all. And most weapons are very impractical and badly designed. It's going to be interresting to see the Ironsight feature in 1.06 seeing as practically no weapon at all have proper ironsights.
For the left hand I'd remove the scratches and add some other type of detail for that hand. It'd look odd to have exactly the same scratches on both hands.
OK, nearly done I think. Thanks for comments :D Duke : I have done what you suggested, and I think they are looking much better now, I added a bit more of a worn leathery texture to it as well. Darg : I have been planing to get rid of the scratches on the other hand, without having to add a second texture map
Looking great, i think you can use overlays to get the scrathces on one hand, i don't know for sure tough.
I was just going to get the uv's around the scratches on 1 hand and give them there own bit of texture space. Will be seemless, can use zbrush to make sure :D. Gonna work on the imperial hands now me thinks, unless any one has a better idea?
The join between the end of the gloves and the fingers looks a bit odd. I think its because they are sort of blended together. The thumb is fine though.
