New Cannon

    I was thinking about how the 1-slot cannon had way too much heat, and came up with the idea of another researchable cannon: adv coolant cannon (better name welcome).

    You would research it in the same area as adv coolant engine is in, and it would be a two-slot cannon with slightly better damage than a standard cannon, have a slightly better rate-of-fire, and cool twice as well. (two std cannons would still do more damage and fire like crazy, but would overheat a lot faster) A HE cannon could out-damage it in the short-term, but the coolant would ultimately be able to inflict more damage over time because it would be much harder to overheat.

    It would be the counter to Plasma Cannon/MG and provide another two-slot cannon other than HE and plasma.

    The railgun is a low-heat weapon. How about a toned-down two-slot version of that? Much lower ROF, lower range, slightly lower damage.

    The railgun shells should fire alot faster IMO

    *Edit: I meant travel a lot faster :)

    I want LAZER TURRETS for the tank chassis. With complicated electronics, but taking out alot of armor plating.

    this advanced coolant cannon sounds great. perhaps it would have similar if not worse properties to the small cannon, but would produce NO heat.

    I think I have a better idea...

    Have a research option called something like "Cannon Active Cooling" or "Actively Cooled Cannons" or similar. This would yield a one-slot cannon-slot thingamajigger that you could place in a cannon slot. This would reduce heat output of any cannons in the same cannon slot row thingy to 1/4th of the original heat output. Or something. Or ignore me. That works too. Yeah. Okay.

    not a bad idea actually... though the idea of a BE heavy with two supercooled HE's scares me.

    I think the NF heavy should have extra plating upgrades to make up for it?

    Make the NF tanks into absolute mammoths.

    Better 1 slot cannon = even more unbalanced gameplay than currently.

    Put 3 or 6 of those coolant cannons in heavy tank and blast away. I messed around with scripts a bit in 1.071b and I could shoot total of 2-3 salvos on 6 rail guns which fill up 1 slot each. When you have 6 of those coolant cannons on your BE heavy you could shoot at least 1 salvo without any problems.

    100/16=6,25

    You can still shoot one salvo with the standard cannon, still a shotgun tank.

    But it was never overpowered anyway.
    You can't hit anything at range (apart from buildings at medium distance) and if you miss or there's more than one tank you're screwed.

    I think it fills the role of tank destroyer.
    A lot of short term firepower in close range, but vulnerable and basicly stationary.
    In the ight hands a good tank for defensive or recklessly offensive purposes, but no especially fine tank.

    It did wonders in wrecking bases though, especially when used with that cooling skill the engineer has

    Did you bother to read my post in it's entirety
    or did you not get past: "But it was never overpowered anyway." :confused:

    Of course it does a lot of damage, that's all you need for buildings.
    It IS effective, in reasonable capable hands.
    But a determined and balanced foe WILL easily destroy you (or force a retreat).
    So it's not overpowered (and I'V not seen it ever been),
    EXCEPT compared to the NF heavys 3 cannons.
    (which overall might make more sense heat wise, nowadays)

    And whoever uses a 6 cannon tank and doesn't have the cooling skill must either be retarded or really afraid of mines / uses the tank as shotgun artillery. ;)

    The NF heavy as the distinct advantage of armor, which it can use to outlast the BE heavy with 6 cannons for quite a while.

    You can also combine the NF heavy with a missile salvo.

    I guess either are good picks, it all depends on who's driving it.

    I did read your post but I just had to stress it's enormous capability to destroy anything upclose..
    Also getting good armour makes it near unvulnerable to grenadiers.. (as long as you shoot them too :P)

    i like the idea of the NF having a monstrous high armor low power tank, it fits better. the BE are fighting to destroy the Jekotian, and the NF are fighting for survival above all else.

    from more testing with the NF med, I've discovered that the problem is when trying to rotate by pressing two directions at low speeds. once you get a bit of speed up, it seems to work a lot better.

    I can make you a tank with standard armor, a heavy. That has 3 missiles, 3 cannons, and take 2 100% successful six shooter salvos.

    its even better with composite, lighter than plain
