The idea is that instead of giving prespecified slots for every different vehicle class, you give a vehicle class a certain amount of weapon slots that can be moved around. So with a NF LT you could move the slot you could use for a mg, and use it for He. the downside would be that the increased weight of the weapon would lower the amount of armor and/or other weapons usable. Pros- -Makes vehicles even more robust, rather than confined to certain weaponry -Gives a chance for new applications of a vehicle (such as a LT tank destroyer) Cons- -Could be unbalanced Alternatives- Keep it the same
well I have two points of view on this one. I love the fact that it can make things a hell of a lot more interesting. I hate the idea in that it would make some ultra tanks. think med tanks with rails, think heavy tanks loaded with 2 BMG and 2 UMG. last one scares the shit outa me more then my love of the first idea.
The idea would be that the configuration would add weight to the vehicle, not to mention the weapons. so a med tank with 1 rail would weigh so much that it could only get 1-2 layers of armor, and the same goes for the heavy. This would mean that drivers get more choice in their balance of offence and defense.
I think it's easier, in general and balancing-wise, to also add 1-slot researched weapons (I think I was having this discussion in another thread aswell), like a 1-slot HE cannon or a 1-slot UML (both with degraded damage and statistics of course)
Me to, that would be the only tank i would need the whole game. A nf light tank with one he cannon. Plain simple best tank in game. Everyone that dont think so doesnt understand the power of the nf light. Btw my dream would be a arty he on a nf lt
The idea is that the weight of the weapon would balance the destructive power, and that a LT could not ave more than 1 2-slot weapon, and that a med could not have more than one 3 slot weapon. And that is without armor. So you could have a LT with 1 or 2 layers of armor and a single double cannon, or a med with 2 or 3 layers of armor and a single 3 spot cannon. The idea of this is that tank drivers get more of a choice in balancing the offensive and defensive capacity of their tanks
why does no one think of railgun lights? imho light tanks should have some kind of triple "omni" slot which allows them to fit weapons worth 3 slots no matter what weapon and if i would be asked these kind of slots would be nice for any tank (meds, instead of an mg an gl for bulding take out, aka med mg slots=2slot fits anything in slot)
I had a similar idea when I was redoing the weight system- each vehicle class would be able to mount a weapon from a heavier class, but it would undergo significant armor penalties. This would effectively do the same thing that you're suggesting, if I understand the suggestion correctly (it wouldn't matter how many slots of a given type were placed, as a tank could only mount weapons of a given weight, yes/no?). Thus the essence of this suggestion could be accomplished much more simply, within the framework of the current code. We ran into issues with balance and numbers such that it couldn't be implemented, though right now I can't quite remember what the problem was. I think it was simply that the numbers didn't balance.
as funny as it is, a northern faction light with a heavy cannon is plain overpowerd even with 2 or 4 layers of armor less.
Falconx, my idea would be that on top of the weapons weight, the mounting slots would also add weight. So a one slot has a certain weight, and a 2 slot would have double an some of that weight. this means that vehicles chassis prohibit them from having certain weapon combinations, and that should balance it.
I just wish the weapons where balance out more in weight to there power. Right now its mainly by how many slots it takes up. More slots = more powerfull right now. Some times this is misleading as well. Like the .50cal Mg and the .50 cal HMg... the only diffrance is the HMg adds then points of damage and 30 weight. For that much weight you could simply add another Standard MG and get 40 more damage... While we are at it why Is the standard mg shoot so slowly? I figured it would be like the riflemans mg...
