Hi guys, Empty here with some important new information for all of you forum regulars and all that jazz. There's a lot of big changes to the forums that'll be happening in the next few weeks, I'll give you guys a quick lowdown before I get into the details: 1) Revamp of all subforums and their rules, this is important so I'll go into depth. 2) More news for empires on steam! Theres some big changes here and I hope you're all excited to hear them! 3) Dev team changes! Some new faces will be joining us, and some of us will sadly be moving on to bigger and greater things! 4) A surprise! I'm sure you'll all love this one! Subforum Revamp: Basically we're tearing down all the subforums, the Empires Discussion Board is getting removed, it'll be replaced by The Black Hole. The dev forum will be made public and anyone will be allowed to post there and see in depth exactly how development for Empires is organized (hint: it isn't!) The offtopic section is being entirely removed and replaced by a single thread where all offtopic discussion can flow unmitigated, allowing for an even more incredible level of thread derailment. Next the Community Contributions board has been removed and replaced with a separate board with 15 subforums, all dedicated to political discussion, both theoretical and real world. An entire section of the board is dedicated to the monthly Empires newsletter and anothe rsection has been dedicated to Markov Chains! Finally, testing is closed as empires in it's current SVN version is actually regarded as COMPLETE. That's right, empires is done! (More on this in a moment!) Empires on Steam: Empires will continue to be distributed on Steam, absolutely free to play. The only changes will be to research and vehicle creation, which will cost real money rather than actual ingame resources. The current conversion rate is 1 dollar to 100 Res Points but we'll be working on balancing that out in the future, the price is likely to increase. We'll be listening carefully to player feedback on balancing res prices, to make the game fair for all. All vehicle content will still be available to all players (e.g. by stealing a teammates tank) so we feel the system is fair. In addition to these changes; an Empires sequel, Empires II is under development, we've actually been contracted by Activision to produce a new Empires game, utilizing the same gameplay mechanics to create an improved experience for all, the new game will require a monthly subscription and the following changes have been demanded by Activision: - Call of Duty Engine, for realistic vehicle and bullet physics - Removal of Grenadier Class and Engineer Classes - Removal of commander system - Addition of unlock system, weapons and attachments (New!) will be unlocked for kills wins etc, they can also be purchased via Micro-Transactions in the steam store. - All new maps, old maps making a return in Empires II: district402, glycencity, urbanchaos, escort. We look forward to Empires II and it's ramifications for us as a whole! New Dev Team: Lead Map Design: Harryhoot Map Filesize Coordinator: Chris0312 Map Layout Designer: Mayama Material Designer: Beerdude Lead Coder: That Guy Who Made Rocket Trails Purple That One Time Particle Artist: Dubee Lead Coder: Empty Head Scripter: Trickster Anyone not listed has been taken off the development team, we'll miss them but they're all at peace with the decision and several have been hired by Activision! We look forward to seeing our ex-devs move on to greater and brighter futures. MOOtant has actually been placed in a stable job at WestWood Studios. I heard he's living in a cardboard box at the moment, but plans to upgrade to a large plastic tub later this year! Congratulations to him! Finally, our Grand Surprise We have a new Lead Dev and also Forum Administrator! He's been a really active community member and with the recent change in dev team members we've all unanimously decided that our new glorious leader to lead us into a new age of prosperity; Mr Die himself! I'm eager to see the new ideas he'll bring to the forums, as well as the reams of political propaganda newsletters he'll create! Sidenote: The Black Hole will still remain a kingdom under the rule of King Empty, but we are a subset of the forum and thus are a subset of Emperor Mr Die's reign of terror sunshine and daisies. Happy April Fools Empires Community!
As map filesize coordinator all custom and official maps must contain a prime number of kilobytes. If your map filesize is not a prime number when measured in kilobytes, your map will not load in the next empires version. We are working on expanding this to include square numbers over the coming months in order to give our mappers more flexibility.
What makes this thread even more hilarious is that Angry, Kylegar and CoffeeBurrito are actually working on Empires II with micro-transactions
Don't forget that Empires II will have Aircraft, a story mode and finally HATS! Just need to find crates and uncrate them with a key from HSMarket, "All that your dieing barracks needs is a little touch of art". Don't forget if you pre-order Empires II you will receive custom DLC containing the infamous MKII tanks and MORE (emp_hobbes, emp_rainbowroad,... ). No seriously, I thought that this was serious until I read the part with mr die.
I believed EVERYTHING (including The Black Hole & ***** coming back) until I read harryhoot is an official head mapper. Edit: I also enjoy the fact that more effort is put on silly April Fools threads (with, ironically, refreshing changes and ideas) than actual Empires development. GJ!
TBH, same as WMG I was worried even when I see the " real money <=> resources" but when I see "harryhoot the lead map design ".( as well as the rest of "dev" team) I scrolled down to the buttom and yah. lol
Add 48 hours to my week and I'll spend 32 of themn working on empires. This took 30 minutes of my time and hopefully made people smile at the very least.
jezus christ mootant dont be such a dick edit: You wanna know a really good april fools prank I herd about, you being a coder.
In recent years we put more effort in, but srs fags insisted on ruining it every time, so I sort of lost the will. This year was more blatant, I don't think it was trying to fool anyone, but as long as someone got a good laugh from it, then Empty did good.
