Ok i asked in two different games (that's like 25% of the empire mod community) if people thought jeeps should be free and so far the majority of the nerdy naysayers that play this game have flat out agreed with me (for once) that jeeps should be free. I mean jeeps are so damn useful... put some elite composite armor on there and a gas turbine engine and all of a sudden you have the best vehicle in the game. If jeeps were free then 90% of your engineers and rifleman would be using them to get far away rt's up and do early assaulting... minute one team starts rolling tanks, then the other team will get tanks... it works out perfectly... Maybe jeep can get some machine guns and full auto grenade launcher like mk19's. Someone suggested a problem that people might start using jeeps to block areas... i said well maybe we can make it so the last jeep you made blows up 9mine style when you get a new one... and he smiled So ya driving a jeep is only reason i play this mod and i'm tired of getting temporary banned from servers for buying nothing but jeeps everytime i die (other day in escort after someone got banned for buying jeeps... i said i had the sudden urge to get one... so i'm in the vf and someone asks me... "your not going to buy a jeep are you?" and i'm like... nah... i think i want a super heavy so i can waste all my teams res... so he laughs and i make a deal with him that i'll not buy a jeep if he lets me ride with em. So he agrees and we wait... and then someone runs in there and buys a medium... and we're like SHIT!!!... so theirs like 25 team res now so i'm like "let's buy a jeep!" and he's like... Ok!... and we just drive around escort in a jeep... and then theirs three of us having a grand old time playing bumper cars with jeeps and apcs... so ya that was loads of fun (we changed empires from some crappy clan only game that's very much not meant for public gameplay into something awesome)... jeeps need to be free so people stop getting banned lol I'm serious... admins on servers are killing off the empires community everytime they ban someone for playing as scout or driving a jeep.
1. jeeps are weak and just drive around. 2. no weapons. 3. no use for the team. 4. everyone who have one will be missed by the front. 5. theyr a waste of res. make them free. but limit it to 3. just 3 jeeps are allowed on the same time, if 1 gets destroyed. 1 can be build. max 3 please
I must admit, the idea of three free jeeps next to the comm vehicle would certianly mean less, frankly boring, running around. I reckon it would have to be a per map option though: it just wouldn't any other way. And I'm in two minds as to whether they should spawn again after they've been destroyed, or whether "that's your lot"!
Free jeeps at start mean free comm rushes. Free jeeps at start means NF controls the map from within 2 minutes in the game. Free jeeps overall means the whole battlefield cluttered with empty jeeps.
Thats exactly why jeeps are not free, and imo, their production should be blockable by the commander..
Free jeeps I don't like. I do however like the idea of giving jeeps weapons, four seats including a gunner position, better handling, and using them on 8x maps to move your squads around. A six-man two-three jeep squad would be the perfect solution to scaled maps being unusable by infantry. You might also consider letting jeeps be field-customised by engineers (add/remove guns and other things, select an upgrade and use the repair tool for however long it takes to add it) and letting the base jeep be dropped by the commander anywhere on the map for 50 res, and not buildable from the vehicle factory.
Yes but can we REALLY expect all of these nice models to be included at some point? The public has no idea about what is planned for the future. Are they more than just eyecandy?
DonMegel wants it in, and it's a pretty nice idea, so i think it'll be added in the future. I can't say anything about we have planned for the jeep though.
go away. you dont know what empires is. but i have to admit i love the idea of replacing the jeep whit the sidewinder and engiee field customisation. and the commander NEED the ability to restrict the creation of certain vehicles. no more idiots whit jeeps and apcs when a med is needed
The problem with jeep is...why get jeep when you can get an APC? It provides more firepower, more seats, mobile respawn. The only advantage of jeep is that it's faster (and smaller, but with less health, the survival rate is about the same) and you can shoot while sitting in the passenger sit, but that's it (and the accuracy in the jeep is terrible, not to mention when you are driving over rough terrain (pretty much the entire map that's made of displacement). Perhaps jeeps can get mobile respawn, too? Or maybe some utility...for example, when the squad leader is in the jeep, it can extend the leader aura over a much larger area..making it kind of like a field command vehicle or something.
I think this thread is not that bad, jeeps can really use some changes to make it more useful. Why keep a vehicle that's useless in-game? Shouldn't it be just removed like the scout rifle until a more suitable replacement arrives? Free jeeps sounds good, as long as they are capped at a certain number. It will solve both the problem of useless jeep parked everywhere (since there can only be so many, and maybe they will self-destruct faster than normal vehicle) and jeep wasting resources.
There are plans to expand their usefulness, but hey, you can't do everything at once! :p First we'll get 2.2 out and then the feature shitstorm can begin lol
i couldnt agree more... So friggen anoying when asshats are wasting res by buying jeeps... >_<... Free jeeps would mean the vehicle limit being fucked over by the 3 empty jeeps...also, the odds of one getting destroyed are hopelessly slim, since the other team would know NOT to destroy them due to the fact that they are in short demand... One jeep walled in = less opponents driving around.
I dunno...I like jeeps and really think they can be useful, that is ofcourse, if the people who buy jeeps would actually give a damn about the rest of their team. So many times I see a 1 man jeep when they could easily be roaming the battlefield helping out their comrades, but nooo...they gotta drive around like a bunch of spastics playing their own game and transportin' only themselves. So i'll wait for the sidewinder, or maybe until hell freezes over and jeep drivers actually help their team.
I just wish that when jeeps and tanks hit eachother that, instead of the jeep flipping the tank, the tank would (just) drive over the jeep stopping it entirely and destroying it
Don't let them customize (i.e. only standard armor and engines) and limit to a total of 5 jeeps and I'm in
