How about making the MG be deployed when you were in a passenger seat in either a jeep, an APC or an AFV? It'd disable recoil (at least a bit). You could have some potential, good teamwork by having an engineer drive a jeep past enemy infantry and a machinegunner (in the other seat) gun them down. In large-scale maps, the MG's only use is currently this: you rush into the enemy base and then spawnrape some infantry in the barracks.
