I thought, why not make a thread on this? I've thought it was a good idea for a long time, so yeah. Let the Commander restrict the construction of any vehicle.
+1 someone please actually think of a reason why its somehow bad to make it impossible for pubbers to waste your res on jeeps and apcs when you need them to make heavys.
I think i suggested 2 years ago that the commander can semi-lock the vf where he has to confirm every vehicle construction.
Not entirely the same idea, thats more of a ironfist control of vehicle construction while it works in theory what happens if someone is spamming to build a jeep and the command has to continually close windows brought up by this neanderthal.
No reason to not have this, if it's done properly. But I'm sure this isn't the first thread about this.
I suggested a checkbox-based restriction menu that allowed you to globally restrict stuff or just for a certain player. The response was that it was a lot of hassle for such a small feature (this was at like 1.06 so there were far more pressing matters). Oh and it really would be a hassle lol
I like this idea. I think it would need some visual indicator (possibly on the vehicle build menu?) of what vehicles are restricted so that people wouldn't waste time/get confused trying to build an apc when only LT's are build-able ect.
Would be a hassle? Just add some more checkboxes. There should be enough space for this. [ ] Restrict all vehicles [ ] Restrict Jeeps [ ] Restrict APC [ ] Restrict LT/AFV [ ] Restrict Medium tank [ ] Restrict Heavy tank [ ] Restrict Arty tank
General restrictions would be less of a hassle, but wouldn't give that much of an advantage either. I'd rather work out a more interesting system first with everyone before coding that (+ there are many other things to do first:p)
make jeeps really cheap and unable to restrict in fact, why restrict the chassis that did not need to be researched?
That would obscure the whole point of this thread, if jeep were free then every scout would spend all day sabbing refs which getting your troopers aware the refs are even getting attacked is hard enough let alone defending it no jeeps still can be restricted. I'd also want a way to restrict certain people from building vehicles so you can "punish" people for ignoring your orders and you can finally get that idiot passerby engineer to build your ref or rax before he gets slaughtered by 4 enemy engis that will soon destroy your building, and you can get that arrogant player who thinks "I'm best scout evar and not afraid of nothing" to stop their endless cycle of 1. BUILD JEEP 2. DRIVE JEEP INTO ENEMY HEAVY 3. ???? 4. DIE 5. TELL COM HE IS NOOB BECAUSE WASTING 75 RES AND A TICKET ON EACH OF MANY MY DEATHS IS IN NO WAY BAD. 6. REPEAT THE PROCESS. If jeeps were cheap the quick game win for any clan stacked side is 1. BUTT BUDDY VOTE CLAN COM IN 2. BUILD VF 3. BUY A JEEP FOR EVERYONE 4. DRIVE TO ENEMY MAIN AND RUN OVER EVERY ENEMY INFANTRY ON THE WAY. 5. SPAM SEISMICS AND SABOTAGE ON ENEMY BARRACKS. 6. WALL IN COM 7. BUILD STUPID SHIT ACROSS MAP UNTIL ENEMY COM RAGE QUITS.
this is the exact reason why i wouldnt like it individualized - it would only end up causing lots of drama because some wannabe pro idiots want to live out their god complex.
isnt that what the admins on the servers are for last time I checked, g4tc admins and learning server admins are on regularly and wouldn't support not allowing vehicles because someone is bad, if there was somehow not an admin online this occured why not just rally your team mates to kick the com, or possibly join the opposing team even if its losing so you can have a vehicle or just go gren and shoot from the top of one of your allied tanks rather then drive it. Besides I'd say the risks out weigh the benfiets since if your being griefed by idiots with jeeps (per say on EMP_MONEY) and you happened to have allied artyillery getting shoved off the edges of your battlements I wouldn't want to restrict jeep construction to just see them waste more of my cash in making ramming heavys, or in another scenario you have a griefer that is purposely buying expensive vehicles and driving up to enemies and letting it die causing the resource pool and tickets to dimish. In larger communitys (such as ours...) griefing is more widespead and if we could actually take advantage of something like this then great. also on another note, anyone that does try to be a "wannabe pro idiot" and gets voted into the command vehicle by the very idiots (99.9% of the time the first nominee for commander is the winner) that voted for him and he doesnt let them build then he won't get voted in again.
