Just to comment that the hill climbing ability of the vehicles is very.... Not good, for the lack of a nicer term. In Isles and Canyon is where I run into the most problems, where your just barley crawling at the top of the slope thus making you a sitting target for AT weapons. I know things like the comm vehicle are really heavy, but the thing should be able to shift into first and grind its way up. Maybe in a future release we could improve the hill climbing preformance a little?
Automatic gears? Decrease the speed but decrease the effect that the angle of the vehicle affects the vehicle. Some sort of gradient curve that guages the angle of the vehicle and changes gear automatically or just keep the entire equation as a gradient. Speed = Max Speed/Angle; Angle Effect = Angle Effect/Angle
My... Head... Hurts... The BE com has no problem climbing most hills, its faster then the NF one... The NF one can usualy be outrun by and AVF... >.<
i think the comm is fine too but this is a real problem for some of the tanks. even with an advanced engine some tanks are barely able to go up hill, this especially seems to apply to afvs and apcs
It is most assuredly a pain when you have to get a running start to climb a hill that a Dodge Caravan that's a decade and a half old now could get up, no problem. Pretty sad if you ask me.
I've noticed this problem as well. It's a real pain to even climb slight slopes. (Unless you have a good acceleration speed already.) I'm not sure how it would be improved. But the tanks definitly need more torque, traction, or whatever is needed to allow them to climb those small hills.
I've noticed this problem with reversing and ramps on Escort. APCs and Tanks just cannot back up ramps there without a "run up". :/ Also, the BE Comm's grip isn't perfect, and it has trouble doing a tight turn on not-at-all-steep ground. TBH, they need better engines and/or better grip on the terrain. On second thought, add that to all tracked vehicles. And please give the vehicles handbrakes! :x
Technically, the tanks should be able to stop quickly, and turn without moving. But you don't see them doing that because of the way the vehicles are handled.
I vote that the left key does the left track and the right key does the right track. wouldn't that be the most flexible?
Anyone played wild metal country, you can get it free from rockstar games, in that game num 5eft track forewards num 2eft track backwards num 6:right track forewards num 3:right track backwards hard to get used to, but once you do you can make your tank do almost anything.
That game rocks. I never really got the hang of turret/track independance, but once you get the hang of steering it's like riding a bike. :D
Well, how do you know it's not very hard for vehicles to climb in higher gravity, with metals that weigh 5x what we have today? Also, how many tanks do we have in this world with the abilities of the tanks in Empires? What I'm saying is, Empires is NOT on earth. So, unless the devs feel like it really hinders gameplay, it's in the plan of the game.
It really hinders gameplay on some maps like escort. You know those ramps right after the second flag with the gap an engie has to build? Those are a son of a bitch to cross even WITH 3phase. I spent 15 minutes just trying to climb it once because an engie had built a turret in such a way that I couldn't back up far enough to get enough speed. The game was won before I even got my tank into action...
