IIRC, KnightTemplar did a good job on helping Broccoli doing the trailer back then. Still have him on my FL and he even played Empires once recently. What's even better is that I can do the rendering using Source-recorder and Virtual Dub now that I've got my new HD. Not sure about the quality though since AA and AF started raping my FPS :/.
You can put your settings up for when you convert the demo to avi IIRC it just will take longer to render. IE if you get 10fps at that setting and you set the video to 30fps it will take 3x+ longer to do.
are you going to just record pub games where action looks pretty epic or do you want some crazy choreography and shit on some private server?
a combination both would be best. some sort of showoff of tanks, buildings and whatnot, maybe with some staged action to make it less boring. and then in between some realgame scenes (including hud, fps, tank and comm view) to actually showcase what to expect from the game. so pretty much similar to the other trailer ...

My point is don't regret it man, at least let her know that you are interested and when she breaks up or if she gets into a fight with him you can swoop in and listen to her vent and get the girl!! For the love of god someone not retarded voiceover the new trailer please. Vess' was pretty cheesy, and whoever did that "war brings people like me" should go slap themselves repeatedly until they learn to never do it again.
Dz did it for comical and satirical effect. It wasn't intended to be serious. If you listen to it as serious, you cringe. If you know that he's joking about, considering that trailer was meant to be internal (within the community) for the most part, then it's pretty fucking funny. Especially laughing at the amount of people who would cringe. Much like Jephir's carve video.
