I don't know, empires infantry combat is really bad in tight quarters. It lasts way too long and it's just awkward.
Purely theoretical, but wouldnt it be possible to create like underground entrances buildings that had some fancy brush giving people noclip to everything ecept itself? Dont know about not showing the ground. Overall underground seems like a nice idea on paper, but it would really have to be small map dependant, just imagine half of your team wasting time digging random mole tunnels on dust while you get stomped.
Nope. I do remember some dude who roughly remade the portal gun functionality as a vanilla Source SDK mod, before Portal 1 was even released. If we could get our hands on that, we could perhaps have tunnels :p
I wouldn't disagree if you said Empires infantry combat is too awkward. But lasts too long? Pistol2 SMG2 AR HR HMG Mortar Shotgun Melee upgrade, they said fuck you. I agree with z00m, are we even playing the same game? You personally brought shotguns and you are telling me infantry fight lasts too long. That's very legit.
I qualify that statement with "in tight quarters". I simply don't like the "dance" that occurs when two players are too close to each other and want the other dead. Empires doesn't handle those situations well. Let me put it another way: If we made a new trailer, we wouldn't have any clips of players trying to fight in close quarters. It looks stupid. It feels stupid. It's awkward.
To compare us with cod, hit detection is crap and melee doesn't home you in on the target after you tapped the key at the right point client side.
I'm not saying it would work at all, but if we added a tunnel entrance and added underground below the maps, you could "teleport" to that underground when entering a tunnel. But it would probably just be mostly weird to have, like do all units die when the entrance to the tunnel is destroyed, do they show up on the minimap, etc.
It used to be fine up close before the port to 2.2. No trash can hiding and pew pew, I literally used to be able to hurdle a wall and gun down the three enemies there with smg2, then jump the other side of the wall, reload, and kill the remaining two. If you can do that again, without turning the weapons shot damage-heavy, give them that run and gun almost serious sam feel, then things will really heat up again.
Dancing is actually pretty skill demanding and I don't see it everywhere. Pretty much 98% players can only strafe without killing themselves. Speaking of this, I think you agree that Gren jumping out from corner and firing mortar is retarded and awkward.
You describe only the situation where two players are basically in base contact and usually with an empty mag. It happens holy shit so rarely unless youre playing on an empty server. Have more than one on either side and its not an issue.
Dance combat is the best part of this game no wonder the game sucks anti-dance is in charge of balancing it.
Oh, I'm a bit of a gluten for punishment, so I'll admit that if I was designing a game similar to Empires, I wouldn't have jumping at all. Like the space key might have a "vault" functionality to get over obstacles, but you couldn't use it to jump. So that probably tells you how I feel about grens jumping around corners like morons.
Wait wait wait... doesn't the the new port we are on now have portal code in it? Can we tap that shit?
