Is there any particular reason we can't add the ability to add armor in increments say 0.1 sheets versus zero or 1?

The plates ARE the increments. There'd be no substantial difference except to make room for a lot more plates, weaken them, and move the decimal point.

Well, if you really want balanced tanks I can see this being useful

I would love to click 10 times to add a single plate to my tank and 60 times to armor a heavy.

shift + click: add in .1 increments

    PROBLEM SOLVED

allow people to type in their armor level (say, 2.5 plates)

    Plating percentage could be interesting.

Except this would make armor weight completely useless, and therefore the only armor worth getting is the most efficient resistance to weight ratio armor.

The reason reactive isn't the ultimate armor is because its heavy weight means it can't be used very easily in all circumstances and has weight left over, or can't armor all sides, if you can just add 0.1 plates until you max out your weight that goes out the window.
