They're arguably the same thing. All that matters is if they're valid points, or not. If they are right, or wrong.
An argument and a debate, to me, are different things. An argument is two people trying to force there idea on each other and not trying to understand the other persons view or logic. A debate is where both people want to come to an understanding an sync there views of a topic. They will both point out why there view is better but, they are willing to listen to the other person and take in there ideas. Thus possibly changing there own view or even both views.
