How to make Empires better.

    Yes, I know some bastard will flame me for this, but thats because you didn't think of it.

    Now, just read this, and before you reply, think. Don't flame. Think. Oh wait, Empires Dev Team.. my mistake.


    Here are my suggestions:


    1. Make CV's the same size.

    This will balance the game out a ton, and also will prevent people building sentry guns and shit under the NF comm. If you can do it to one comm, you should be able to do it tothe other.

    2. Cut the top of the NF rax off.

    Just do it. It won't take long, not hard to do.. and it will still have its 'NF Theme'.. If you don't do this, at least give the BE Rax a second storey.

    3. Classes

    Instead of having classes, why not do something a bit more cool and not have them. Make RPG, Engineer Calculator, MG, AR all researchable under the research trees.. including mines and sniper rifles. This way you can balance the game alot more, make it wayyy more interesting and less viechle sided.

    4. Remodel the Entire NF Side

    Just do it. Don't argue. Just do it. They look like they;ve been shat out by some person. If NF is this 'terrorist' orginzation, why not make there buildings more sandbag orientated, camo netting and more slapped together than the BE's advanced engineering stylee.. also, brown is not a colour scheme.

    5. Mayama don't fucking flame this

    Just because your a dev member doesn't mean you can flame this. These are all viable suggestions, and probably ones you hate.. because I am not a modeller and I don't know shit. Well, I am a modeller and a mapper. So, be constructive.

    Mayama isn't a dev, he's just a member of a group of people who bought a cardboard box and wrote 'DEVOLOMPENT STUDYIO' on the side in red crayon.

    1 and 2 have been suggested so many times, and it's a great idea...just model a good NF comm and barracks and we will seriously consider it. Right now, we can say 'Yea, lets do it' but without artists... there's simply no way to do it.

    Three is just dumb beyond beyond all comprehension.

    Four is just about as equally dumb, but I'm not nearly as dumbfounded to respond to it. The NF aren't just a terrorist organization...they are the remnants-turned rebel faction of a former empire. All of their stuff is aged and being pushed into service while it's on the verge of breaking into tiny little pieces. Megel is working on remodeling the NF side, and it's looking nice.

    for 5. YEA MAYAMA!!! STOP FLAMING THIS IDEA :rolleyes:

    and finally, the reason your ideas are 'new' is because we have thought of them before, and found them too dumb to even post about them.

    I would have to agree the designs could be much more stylish, but one could do with some simple shape changes and little edits. Either way, I doubt it'll happen any time soon as I'm sure the team has other priorities like gameplay balance and aircraft.

    You really thought you were the first intelligent empires player ever and no one thought about CVs with the same size? Or more reseach for infantry? Or remodeling because current moddels are crap and eat lots of performance anyway?
    YOU FAILED ... at seach ... or maybe reading the stickys, i mean think about it ...

    There are 3 things I find currently most annoying about Empires.

    1. Player Collision!
    Playing maps like District, Escort or Homeland can become a mental stress test. It's a never ending story of blocking each other and getting stuck on each other.
    After playing Empires for almost 2 years I'm soooooooo sick of it.
    Player collision is so 20th century.

    2. Clipping.
    I hate inaccurate clipping. Going behind cover can become be a gamble. You never know if you are protect but you target too because your bullets disappeared in an invisible brush. I even hate it when I am protect by an invisible wall because I can't stop thinking how much I hate when this happens to me. Really annoying is when this invisible shield blocks only in one direction but let bullet pass into the other.
    I was once told that there is little that can be done because you had to decompile the maps and models and redraw them and this would take ages. But I played so many other shooters the last 10 years and I never encountered such inaccurate clipping like in Empires.
    Sometimes it happens that my player model interact with a brush resulting that my aim goes completely off like I am mid air. Imagine how much it sucks when this happens during a shoot-out. It doesn't matter how good your aim is anymore because suddenly you spread reached maximum. As if I were mid-air.

    3.Spawning with limited ammo.
    I played today old Escort on Vipers as NF. Each time I died I felt grieved by the game itself. I mean you start with a full clip and 50 spare bullets plus 1 sticky...WTF? I have first to get restocked while outside the action is waiting for me.
    Really funny it became when BE was rushing the flag with tanks while I prayed they don't cap the flag in the next 5 seconds because I am busy getting ammo although I just respawned.

    Also I call Mayama to the rescue.

    Reading Dragoons post reminded me of another thing:
    The model is a bit lower than the viewpoint... it's kinda hard to explain...
    It's most noticible in Escort. While capping the first flag, on the left balcony of the brenodi base, you can crouch behind some walls and shoot over them. But since the model is smaller, and so are the hitboxes, you can't be shot at.

    Right, as you all hated my 3rd and 4th idea, this is me explaining it a bit better.

    I'm sure you all know people who ninja early, mine everything, rush a forward rax.. this is all because of having mines and calculators.

    Putting these having to be researched will prevent this, and the game can go on much longer, giving commanders way more tactics at there hand instead of just having to research veichle tech all the time.

    Reason for removing classes?

    How many of you play scout or rifleman on say emp_cyclopean? Very few. Becuase they are pointless and not needed. I know its different on escort and district, but those are only two maps, compared to the vast majority of maps that are commanding maps.

    If you don't want to remove classes, fine. Just buff up the sniper rifle. Its as powerful as a pea shooter atm, and its ridiculous. Balance it by giving it a say 2 seconds bewteen shots, and a 8 second reload time. Nerfing its damage is just the stupidest thing ever, and probably only done because a dev got tired of a sniper 'camping'.

    As for rifleman, he could easily be merged in with the grenadier to make a sort of hybrid bastard, who could choose between stickies or mines, or rpg or assault rifle, shotgun pisstol or armour.


    his mod is dying because of people being ultra-conservative and not wanting radical changes, and i'm sure this change would make it alot more fun.

    Oh well, I feel the flames rising..

    The sniper rifle created boring stalemates, gave cheap kills, and caused new players to snipe instead of building structures, driving tanks or healing and reviving wounded and dead players.

    Scout rifle is useless, and that was intented, it will be removed in the next version. No debate possible, it will be replaced by a shotgun. For version 3.0 we will have a totally new art, new moddels, new textures adn new maps, the Commander and ingame UI will be redone, we will recieve new weapons and balance tweaks. And we will get helicopters.

    Everything in 3.0 will be redone, I don't call that Ultra-Conservative.

    You whine, you whine because your ideas won't be implented and added. We weren't forced to play Empires so the game belongs to the developers not to us, period.

    WE don't like stalemates, there have been various changes in the past to decrease and prevent stalemates from happening. The HMG(Death laser) and Scout Rifle(Sniper) are one of many, and more changes and features are planned for 2.5 and 3.0.

    EDIT: Futher on, your lack of knowledge of this game puts you into no position what so ever to decide what's good for this game.

    Remove calculators? Nerf Engineers so they can't build?
    Remove Mines? Nerf the Grenadier even more?
    Remove Rifleman? Sorry, but there are allot of rifleman on cyclopean, hazard, king, snowbound, slaughtered, canyon, ect.
    Buff the sniper rifle? The fact that you call it a sniper rifle disturbs me, it's a scout rifle, not a sniper rifle. WE don't wan't snipers in our game, period.

    Sniper has been nerfed because Empires' combat is supposed to be over short distances, not a campfest of 2 teams of snipers sniping each other and furthermore because there is often too little cover on most of Empires' huge maps. There is also a falloff for the sniper btw, get closer and you'll notice that it will be much more effective.

    The reason why you don't see scouts that often is that engineers have been set as default class and because the scout is in my eyes the class that needs the most skill to be effective with. Riflemen however are usually often represented.

    Classes are fine as they are in my opinion, only SMG2 needs a buff again.

    why the scout rifle is broken:

    it was used to get 4th skill fast (pointfarming) by being useless (killing people that just spawned from a barracks (not kill the barracks)

    it was used to camp refinery nodes, making an "epic win" when the engineer that walked 5 miles got sniped in 1 shot the moment he wanted to build the dropped refinery, but you sat there waiting 10 mins for someone to show up and could have built a base and 10 refineries by then

    it was used to "observe" the enemy (when a scout ran out of bullets he did not return to his base, because he thought he was occupying a tactical position) and made people yell "OMG THERE CV IS IN THERE MAIN BASE OMG CMON GUYS ITS IN THERE MAIN BASE LETS RUSH IT NOW!!!"

    basically, i believe the scout rifle could be kept in if all the above problems are fixed

    Scout rifle is fine as it is now.
    But you reminded me to say that the binocs should finally be able to mark at least 5 targets and should be able to see through fog.
