How much of HL2DM do I need to play empires? Is it just the .gcf file?

I'm trying to free up some space.

its the gcf's that take up all the space, the rest doesnt use up much space. Better get a new hard drive, 150 to 300 are all cheap as dirt nowadays.

£61.09 +p&p for the Seagate Barracude 7200.10 320GB SATA harddrive. Excellent drive, almost as fast as a Raptor but much much cheaper and bigger.

The truth of it was that I didn't want to have to wait for HL2DM to download from steam when I switched computers. The d/l (2GB) would have taken like 12 hours downloading from steam. I just wanted to know how much to copy from my old computer.

I copied the hl2dm gcf file and the source sdk base and that seemed to work.

I still have 200 GB free.

Ah excellent, yea you don't need all the other files unless you actually want to play hl2dm of course ;)

My steam folder is 14,8GB. :o

I didn't know Source SDK Base was required for Mods.
It just appeared in the Games list some day, and yeah, well, that was it for me. :p

If you have the right files inside your Folder, but don't really own the game, can you play the mod still?

Stupid caps rules rules.

A possible reason why I have Source SDK Base in my games list is my shortcut.
It looks like this:
D:\Steam\Steam.exe -beta -dev -sourcesdk

Source SDK Base is basically the latest game engine, it's only used for a stress test but you can also open up any type of map in it including of course HDR maps. I believe you can use it as your mods engine, thereby automatically updating to the latest engine everytime you recompile. Last night when I tried setting up Hammer to use the sdk base as my engine it crashed straight away so now I need to fix it.
