Well I suppose this would be a pretty good starting point for a career if I wanted to become an editor, reporter, writer, or an english teacher/professor.
so my education went from being worthless to being well suited for me? all right. i'll take this as a concession.
In the words of my Physics teacher. 'Art teacher's are very good at what they do. And not much else.'
Despite not liking Pickled's outlook much, I would say learning the reasoning behind certain concepts and ideas that our nature as humans revolves around, is somewhat more meaningful than what a lot of people do with their daily lives. With regards to literature, I despise someone who is a fake scholar and seeks to read works just to be able to demonstrate their intellect by quoting a learned person. Learning from what has come before is noble, but correctly using that knowledge is in extrapolation and application of those ideas, not in using it just to feel superior. Also, don't hate on something just because it came from Pickled.
Oh for fuck's sake. Fine. The point of the poem is that you don't want to be Ozymandias because it turns out at the end of the poem his whole life was for nothing because all of his great works and accomplishments crumbled to dust. Metaphorically it's the same for spending your life playing empires and being proud of how much time you've devoted to it and how good you are because your accomplishments will decay a lot faster. I felt that empty's interpretation of the reason why I posted the passage I posted was erroneous so I turned on the flamethrower. This is something I would normally charge for. Are you happy now?
I wasn't saying you, I just meant in general lol. I thought the quote was quite good when I first read your post :p /egg
somewhat around 450 empires and about the same for hammer  i should have released more maps than one then ... its a shame
I have not, nor ever will I work in the food service industry. My family has a long history of participating in the academic tradition and I have seen no evidence to suggest that people who follow that tradition are unemployed or financially hindered whatsoever. Both of my parents were English majors. Two of my cousins were English majors, and one of those went on to become a doctor of English. His doctoral thesis was on poetry. All of them are or were gainfully employed (my mother being retired from the teaching profession). Growing up, I never recalled a point in time where either my father or mother were unemployed or working at starbucks. I suppose it's beyond your ability to see that an employer other than a school or university might want someone with superior writing composition and reading comprehension skills.
Oh wow. You just opened a whole big fucking can of worms there, buddy. I suppose you don't think that dictionaries or newspapers or books or movies or plays or teaching others to be able to communicate with others intelligibly contributes much to the world, either? And, of course, this statement presupposes that I give a fuck about the world in the first place.
Again, you've picked a perfect career if you dislike the world in general and don't want to contribute.
The same argument could be made for virtually any career. If someone has malicious intent, they will be able to exact pain and strife upon society whether or not they are an English major.
