i have installed empires but there is no exe file in the directory and i cant run it through half life so how do i run the game and connect to a server?
If installed correctly, empires will appear in your Steam games window and you will be able to see empires servers in your steam server list (after restarting Steam). regards Tim
Firstly, you need the full version of Half Life 2 to run it. Then install the 1.0 version of the game into your Steam/Steamapps/Sourcemods folder. Then install the 1.05 patch on top of that. You then need to restart Steam, and it should appear in the My Games list.
i have the full version on HL2 installed but there is no steam program? and no steam folder in the hl2 directory.... Brightside
yes it is. does it normally install auto when you run hl2 setup or do you have to open another file on the disk? so steam holds hl2 - CS - empires in one folder?
Did you buy it retail? I got mine over steam, so I don't know about such things. If you don't have steam installed, you can download it from http://www.steampowered.com/?area=getsteamnow
Well, the place of your Steam-folder might be anywhere else, but the structure inside should look like this: http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7919/steam8ta.jpg You'll get Steam (it really should be on your HL2-DVD) here: www.steampowered.com. After installing and creating an account you can register a product (in your case HL2) with the serial (given to you with the DVD) and download HL2 via Internet (no need for the DVD any more, you may loose it after that ). After that, you must put every mod into the sourcemods-folder. Steam must be running to play anyone of the games or mods. They can be accessed by the games list. There for there is that icon in infobar-area of your taskbar (looks like the programm-icon in the steam folder). Just rightclick it.
i found steam and installed it thanks.... but there is no folder called sourcemods in the staemapps directory? where do i install empires then?
I think it may not be there by default. Just install it there anyway, and it should work. Make sure you restart Steam after you have installed it.
Make sure you ran Steam at least once before installing Empires and also make sure that steam is completely closed (no tray symbol, takes a while to shut down) when installing.
