Hl2's voip

Eum, so i don't know if this is the right place to ask this, BUT:

Is there ANY way of boosting the quality of the VOIP?

Apparently i can't be heard worth shit. And i do love to spew profanities over voips when people act retarded

Also this could be used as a guide to those whom, like me, are totally clueless when it comes to HL2's sucky features, as i've noticed that some of you out there, like me, needs to stop trying to speak over the voip.

 

Usually, it's related to the quality of your mic and sound card.

Here Ill trasnlate Valve speek to plain english. Valve planes on upgrading the VOIP in the games so they are going to break it for a month, and release half a dosen small patches to fix it till it is only slightly better than it was but it will still have really odd glitches that ever go away.:D

 

Look at the bright side, it'll take six months for them to get it done. :D

I actually recommend using something like TS or Ventrilo (only the uneducated who don't know what a codec is claim that the voice quality in TS sucks). That may not let you communicate directly with the currently present TEAM, but will at least let you have convos with people. Maybe even your clan. Maybe even when you and your clanmates are on a server.

Gets really fun when two different clans are on the same side in the same channel. The 42nd can impress the hell out of other clans with our efficient and deadly communication skills.

And that last part? That's not said in jest. It's dead serious.

 

i turned off voices because 9 out of ten times its an annoying prepubescent or angry nerd spamming the mic.. but it sucks cause somtimes there will be a helpful or not annoying person

 

There's not many anoying mic-spammers in Empires I found, especially since it usually takes some brains to find and install the game. You can mute specific people right?

On a good server, it shouldn't be an issue, as an admin only needs to go ma_mute sgt. mike 0

 

i havn't heard someone use a mic for aaages...

i wish people would.

I use to but then people just ignored me so I only use it if I hear some one else using theres.

Something tells me its the fucking VOIP. I know that sometimes I sit too close....I sound FINE on the mic test...but everyone sayss "wtf! Shut up!" or something like that...

Maybe I just need to drop the gain, as the HL2 VOIP may be more sensitive than farxing TS is. Anymore I've come to hate TS.

 

I've got an MP3 player hooked into my mic port, and i can hear it just fine on my speakers, but when i do the mic test, it shouds like shit.

 

Are you, by any chance, under 16? That might be the problem.
