Is there some sort of light under the displacements?

No ark, just a lighting from a 40 degree angle.

Try putting all the displacement surfaces to the same smoothing group

This happens with fast rad. Do a full rad compile.

I had something like this once. It doesn't look like the same problem though, but who knows ... it could be helpfull.
    http://users.telenet.be/samhannes/mapping/screens tankbattle v2/7.jpg

After some searching for the problem i found out that the brushes from the displacements who had this problem had displacements on all 6 sides. So i had to destroy the other 5 displacement surfaces for every brush who had the problem.

I'd guess the same as Jcw, make sure you're running a full (or even a final) RAD.

You should only make displacements from faces that will be used. Never just select a brush and make them a displacement.

What's with your new map? this is the wrong problem I see with it; it has those criss crossing dark patches which I'm guessing is what these are.

Also sometimes if you have a skybox under the map it casts light onto the displacement, creating weird shadow effects. This has happened to me several times. (partly the reason I abondoned the usuge off a sky"box".
An other thing is if the disp touches a normal brush, it creates a shadow too.

Ug that is what I meant.
My shadows in map are perfectly fine except for displacement.

I have not done a full compile yet due to work though.

    I repeat myself

I've compiled a map with fast rad, had the same problem, then compiled it with full rad, problem fixed. So unless you are making the minimap or releasing it, ignore it.
