I have 512mb of RAM, so my heapsize as 262144 (half of my RAM). But even after defraging i take 2mins longer than everyone else to join maps like mvalley, duststorm and cyclopean. I don't see this getting faster any sooner, and i've tried the client optimisation, so my question:

What if i set my heapsize to 3/4 of my RAM? I want all my RAM to be directed to the game anyway, so what would be the downsides to doing this? I mean, if only half of the RAM is being used for the game, the other half is doing...not alot? 0o

Always make sure to have as little as possible processes going on in the background, don't have torrents and P2P programs active, if IRC is on, turn it off. If it doesn't loads faster then, you can up the amount of ram used to 3/4th.

dont upgrade heapsize to 3/4 of your ram---even half of your rams a bad idea when you only have 512mb. you know your operating system---that needs ram aswell you take too much away from that and lots of things will slow down.
for comparison i have 1.5gb of ram and only use around 360mb as heapsize, i could use more but im keeping it so all my other programs dont get throttled.

if you want faster load times buy more ram

Upgrade. I had 512mb ram, now I got 2GB. It sure helps ;) and doesn't cost THAT much.

I have waited a long time and nothing good has come to me.

If you want to get something good you have to work for it aka do work to get money to buy it.

Try setting the textures to low. You'll have to guess how to get of the barracks but it'll speed up loading.

What sort of ram does your laptop take/have currently? Ram these days is pretty cheap... 20-30 bucks oughta get you to 1 GB.

I think it is a bit different story with laptop's RAM or other parts.

Indeed. Making thing smaller = higher price. Laptop RAM prices hover at around $80 CAD per 1gb stick.
