i've done pretty much about everything and hammer still won't start. i will enter the launcher and double click on hammer and the win7 circle thing will spin for about half a second and then nothing. all my GameInfo.txt paths are correct, and i have 2006 base, 2007 base, hl2 installed, empires installed, etc etc. what's going on?
nevermind i was able to start it by running hammer in Source 2006 mode for Half-Life 2 deathmatch after copying the GameInfo.txt from the hl2 bin folder to %steamdir%\steamapps\common\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp fuck this was frustrating EDIT: nope it's still fucked
there's a guide on this shit somewhere basically valve broke hammer and didnt fix it ever something to do with a shader script or something that hammer uses
since when did i need to install visual studio to make a fucking map. i take it that it's broken for everyone else, right?
Mine works on my home PC, and what I had to do was ask Silk for his .txt files and modifying them accordingly.
Am I the only one that had no problems with getting hammer to work. This goes for both my laptop and desktop. FN, what are your system specs, including OS.
I didn't even try to set it up for my laptop, just for the record. My installation was rather smooth too.
Win 7 64bit, amd phenom II 965 be, 8gb ram, geforce 560ti The word on the forums is that the sdk is no longer supported and that in order to map for source 2006, 2007, or 2009 games you need to compile sdk beta
Hammer doesn't always like when you try to launch it using games or tools that have never been run on your computer. If you ever encounter this again, try running the actual source sdk base 200x files in your tools. It should launch a half life window with a stress test in it for your computer. After the game / tool has been run, hammer should operate normally. This is the solution if hammer just doesn't start at all. If it launches, but there are no grid lines in the 2d editor screen, you have a different issue, which usually happens with the newer versions of hammer rather than the 2006/2007 sdk base.
So I'm pretty sure if you are getting this issue, you should refer to this thread to properly setup your hammer. Btw, why do you want hammer? no one will ever want to play your map unless it's rainbowroad 2.0 true story
It's been a while since i had to deal with the no gridlines issues, but it's probably because of hammer wanted to use the 2006/7 resources in a newer version of hammer, and they don't quite work together. It may also have to do with the current Visual studio redistribution pack on your system.
it has to do with your gameinfo.txt. add Code: Game |all_source_engine_paths|hl2/hl2_textures.vpk Game |all_source_engine_paths|hl2/hl2_misc.vpk to your searchpaths
