I havnt dont much with hammer editor on the source engine but I was just setting up an example for LordDz and I've been getting the same error over and again, I even tried reloading hammer after I turned my undo levels down to 10 from 50, no help. Why is my Hammer just loading on overkill. this isnt exactly a complicated map or much to it for that matter. this is like the 2nd time I've even really used hammer on steam so maybe I just fail at setup or some crap I dono but I think ima pick back up on mapping so would like to clear it up still.
i have 3 gigs on xp i'd also suggest not running to many programs with hammer especially when compileing
mmm I havnt even done a compile yet, all I've done is make 6 blocks of wall and a block in the middle of the room.
Close your other programs when you run hammer, especially web browsers, as they tend to eat alot of memory. Wait, is hammer using 600,000k? I don't think that's normal EDIT: mine only uses half that much, and thats after loading a rather huge map.
ya something wrong, delete your local game content for 'source sdk' and delete the directory too, then reload it. should fix it. i only got 1gb and i can map fine with XP.
mine uses 800k but i have no problems what so ever and i've reinstalled hammer about 30 times in the pass few months
Don't delete anything. Post your specs, so we can see how your settings should look like. Take screenshots of your currents settings in the options screen. I think the max model and clipping distance is too far, but i can't advise you on that until i know your specs.
Whenever I first run Hammer on a new computer, that error always pops up. Y'know what I do? "Don't show this to me again." Don't know why it pops up, but I've always ignored it, and never worried about it until I actually started suffering from poor performance. (Though, once you actually start suffering from poor performance, there's not much to be done about it anyway. A decent-sized level is going to bog your computer down more than 100 undo levels ever will.)
