Alright, so, i was playing empires a little while ago, and was having some major lag issues. I was on streets of fire, and everytime i would spawn, my ping would shoot to 700+, then after around 10 seconds it would drop to 80, then back up to 700 after around 30 seconds.

I tried changing "rate", but i really didnt know what i was doing.
Here are some shots of my netgraph (sorry if this is huge):

    :-O

cl_cmdrate is how often you send info to the server
cl_updaterate is how often the server sends info to you
rate is how much bandwidth you allow the game to use, in bytes.

You oughta be able to set rate to 20000 just fine. I also imagine you could set cmdrate and updaterate as high as you'd like. At or over 33 should be good, as most empires servers only have a 33 tic.

That only matters if you did a tracert and the pings leading up to the server were fine.
