I believe Valve won't be able to give Half-Life series up like that, they don't seem to be worrying about any bullshit like "consumer expectations made up by some fat guy and containing lots of splosions, flashes, gameplay suitable for 12 years old kid".

I think they will create Half-Life 3, just to do it.

    What do you think?

well, actually the combine are not defeated at all,

the invasion is halted, but all combine forces on earth are still on earth :s

best case scenario a couple of years combine cleansing years pass by until the combine go at it again
hopefully a lot of men and women have done there part for the procreation of the species, since i do not know if humanity will survive another "follow freeman"

this is my humble view on the matter

I'm sure Gabe is on record somewhere saying That the Episodes are Half-Life 3. I believe Ep3 will be the end of the story. He also said that the entire story was basically worked out right when they made HL1. Not the details, obviously, but they knew exactly who the GMan is, and basically how it will end. I'll have to search out the interview.

I hope they the bring Gordon story to an undeniable end...either kill him or make him transcend into a god or whatever. It's the only way to really protect your character, otherwise the possibility will always be there for some idiots years from now to get hold of the license and pump out endless shitty followups. I have faith in Valve not to sell out Half-Life. They already turned down a bunch of movie deals because the scripts sucked.

It ends in an SNES styled boss battle with gordon in a hunter chopper fighting a gigantic base and at the end the Gman is there.

the episodes are HL3 afaik. That doesn't mean that they won't do some HL game after EP3....but I think the fundamental gameplay would need to change, and might change to involve Barney or something (or, I know, play as alyx! Heh.)

I just hope they do not mess up the numbering and call hl3 hl3, in stead of skipping a number because of episodes

I doubt they would, otherwise they would have called the episodes HL3:Episodes1-3.

no to system shock 3, maybe to deus ex 3.

no to systemshock 3 because shodan would become a little bitch. in the first one she was a badass, in the second one she was trying to reclaim her children then decided to help you kill them because they rebelled against her, but if they make 3 there would be no way for her to redeem herself after the defeats without becoming like a kid cartoon villain.

as for deus ex, i have never played the second one (off to go fix that though) so i dont know if it would work or not.

DE3 has been announced. SS3 is unlikely, it is in copyright hell at the moment.

DE2 was OK, graphics were good (for the time) - same engine as Thief 3...but DE1 was better by far. Graphics don't make a game. Either way, DE2 ISfun.

Bioshock does not live up to SS2, either. Shodan ftw.

But I don't think SS3 would involve Shodan, but who knows. Maybe you get back to earth after the escape pod does, and bad stuff happens? Dunno. Start a petition for a SS3!

Looking glass is dead, irrational games got bought up by Take Two and EA owns the System shock IP, I don't think a SSE3 would ever be good, as Looking glass were the real genius behind SS, I'd rather not see another SS than one that ruins it.

I'm also pretty sure that Valve has stated before that there will not be a HL3.

Lets hope Fallout3 and Diablo3 will be epic :D

Lets hope new game franchises come around sometime soon, and Gears of Boredom doesn't count.

    ...

    Neither does Bioshock.

And what is it with game studios? They either exist for ages and never put out a REALLY GOOD game, or they put out one of the best games ever made and then fall apart....

When Looking glass was forced to declare bankruptcy, they had just released ThiefII, which was selling very well immediately after release, and began produciton on ThiefIII. During that same time Eidos was also the publisher for the infamous Daikatana by Ion Storm, basicly Eidos let Looking Glass drop in favor of Romero's green Quake, which they kept pouring money into. Eidos really let that one slip, Daikatana was outdated by the time it was released and should have been dropped a year or so before when the whole development team abandoned the project.

I'd also like to note that Deus Ex, while made by Ion Storm, was led by Warren Spector, who was a game designer for Looking Glass before and worked on System Shock among other games.
