I recently downloaded all the HL2 games, and i can say that i IMMENSELY enjoyed it.

But that is not the point. I noticed that in HL2 if you walk up to a ladder and climb, it locks you on the ladder, and no amount of WASD ing can make you fly off the side. Only by hitting space bar can you 'fall off' so to say.

I am suggesting that we replace our ladders in empires (emp_isle, for example) with the HL2 varients. I had some bad times with them, and i still remember when scardybob (i think) who was our dedicated revver in the squad fell to his doom.

    So, small change, please.

    Pros:
    EVERYTHING

    Cons:
i really cant think of one

They use a different ladder type than ladders in empires. I believe it uses a start ladder point and end ladder point, as well as a dismount brush to tell the game where you get on the ladder, and where you can get off the ladder.

Empires and CSS use the old style goldsrc ladders. They are a brush you stick to, nothing more.

HL2 uses a non-brush ladder, it's a start and end point with nodes at either end to denote mount/dismount directions.

It's a better system for controls but for some reason it is rarely used in multiplayer.

i would say that this would actually IMPROVE gameplay as opposed to wrecking it...

That is because they arent implemented on the code side, blizz.
Might look into how they are done in SP and try porting them?

thats what me and a friend did, and it didn't "work"

it felt bad and bothered the playing in multiplay so in the end we decided to keep using regular stairs

No, func ladder is the old style ladder that has been used since goldsrc, as I said that's the type empires uses, it's the point ladder that doesn't work.

I read somewhere that HL2 style ladders are actually not good for multiplayer gameplay, which is why people don't use them in multiplayer stuff. but HL2: DM had them, if i recall... should work.

one thing about gameplay is that if someone waits at the top of the ladder, he just waits until he hears you climbing and then shoots you, and there's nothing you can really do to hurt him. I guess that's true of ladders IRL too. not that people generally install ladders up 50ft high cliffs with no other saftey stuff. I'm just thinking like, NW on cyclopean, trying to get to the SE most ref in the NW platau... people are always camping the ladders. I know I do.

you can currently shoot back. though you get the same accuracy as if you were standing (unless you crouch when you get onto the ladder?)

That is because Half-Life 2 runs the Legacy Engine ladders and Empires runs the Orange Box engine. One benefit: the Orange Box ladders do not reset per-player gravity, probably the reason you have this problem, as none of the admin mods for Empires has a per-player gravity module.

To patch this, it would require going back to the legacy engine, and though I would be completely in favor of that (I hate the Orange Box engine), it is both unrealistic and impossible for this mod.
