I've successfully built the server. However when I ran hldsupdatetool it got to 95 percent then disconnected me with an error. That happened twice but it works so... anyway. I cant get the UDP ports to open for some reason. I am doing it right and i can open the tcp ports but the udp ports continue to show closed. I have no firewall and no security, everything is port forwarded correctly. TCP shows but UDP doesnt. I dont know why. Also after a while im able to get the server to connect and it says masterserver twice giving me 2 ip addresses and the ports im on. however my server doesnt show up. I had a friend verify that. My server shows my local ip address in the consol window but i read thats normal? I'm able to connect to the server myself manually by typing my local address however i cannot get the server online. Some help would be nice, thank you.

    Just an update

In the consol windows i get
    Adding master server 69.28.140.246:27011
    Adding master server 72.165.61.189:27011
    Connection to Steam servers successful.
    VAC secure mode is activated.

and I get 5 different Bans that are permanent and start with STEAM_0:0 the type of ban is Auth ID

In the main tab my IP address is local still.

    +ip <your_ip_goes_here>

You put your external IP there. 0.0.0.0 works too as far as I remember.

I used that command however it was -ip not +ip and I used it in the shortcut. When I did it I got an error. Is there a diff between using - or + ?

ok i noticed no difference because either command says gives Engine Error "Couldn't allocate any server IP port". I know its my external ip cuz its easy to go to whatsmyip.com or look at my router

    You might try http://forums.srcds.com/
I don't think there are many people on this forum who have setup HL2 servers before.

ya i managed to get things working after this. It was my UDP ports all along, i had an accident while configuring my dsl box getting locked out and it had to be reset to factory... called at&t cuz i didnt know my ID and password. After reconfiguring it somehow it magically worked again. I blame Motorola products....

The bans are hardcoded bans in the source code, we used them to ban griefers.
