I figured this out by getting the cv stuck on a refinery geyser, a tank stuck on an unfinished bridge, and the jeep on a cliff ledge.
I find it funny how with some engines, you can rotate your tank by pressing A or D, and with other's you can't. Good for getting unstuck.
Does this really depend on the engine? I though it simply only works if you have a vehicle with crawlers (medium tank, heavie tank or arty).
Lol, I found that out too and I was like: -.-" I think vehicles should have both front and back wheel drive.
look closely on the vehicles who do that, do you notice something? Yes? RIGHT! They got tracks, and you can turn on the spot with tracks, its a feature/
lol brutos you beat me to it.... also heres another tip for getting unstuck point your cannon in the direction opposite what you need to go and fire if you have a usefull cannon should blow you off after a couple shots but the best thing to do is not be a crappy driver
lol well solo you guys did it without knowing then because only the tanks with tracks in the models can turn like they have tracks...... so what ever....
I don't know anything about the empires code base, but you can simulate tracks by putting many (let's say 20) mesh-less small wheels on the base where the tracks go.
You don't need track physics to simulate tracks. Look at the way C&C Renegade handled tracked vehicles. To create a tracked vehicle in renegade, you put two fixed (as in don't turn left and right) wheel bones in front, and two in back. Then how the game managed it is; when turning left, the left "wheels" slowed stopped or went into reverse. While turning left, the opposite happened, the right wheels slowed, stopped, or went into reverse. Now this is an over simplification, but it should be hard to come up with some code to tell the wheels what to do at different speeds, when your stopped, etc. The problem with this is, the more contacts with the map, the more lag, as the game has to keep track of every single one of those wheels.
the amount of wheels is not limited, 6 wheels could make it that in almost every position 2 wheels hit the floor
Please re-read my post. I am well aware that they are tracked. What I'm saying, is that you can rotate with some Engines, but not others. Nothing to do with the Chassis.
Well. There you go. I don't have access to 2.2 yet, do I? Until the majority of us have access to 2.2, It's only fair we talk 2.12. kthxbi.
Well I was sure that this is a pretty old feature and I'm right I just tested it again in 2.12 with most engines and tanks. Everything that is track ONLY. Can be turned on the spot. The Be afv has tires too that means It cant turn. Be med, heavy, arty, Nf med, heavy, arty can all turn on the spot.
indeed, everything Med and up can rotate on the spot, However you must be sationary (not moveing forward, or reverse) to do so, otherwise you will turn like "normal"
