The blindingly obvious; just have a +rep/kudos setup. It removes -rep as a tool for tools whilst still re enforcing positive posts that make some contribution to a thread.

Rep. systems do NOT cause elitism. They just tell you who's most/least respected by other users. However, it's probably best that a Reason box should be added (so trolls don't run about -1ing everyone), and that any given user should only be able to +1/-1 once per fifteen or thirty minutes.
No, brutos would be banned too. (I blame him for everything that's not M00tant's fault.) Krenzo would survive, but only because he rarely posts and there'd be nothing to rep/-rep him for.

I think there are some who would make it their personal mission to scroll down the members list and ban every single person with at least 100 posts. Then go back with an alt account and narrow that down to 50.
