The people I got the server from apparently doesn't like to keep it online or have good level of security because the server has been out so many times it's not even funny (and one time hacked). During this time when the forums do go down you should be able to get to it using the temporary link of "http://empires.pwc-gaming.com/" then it will go right back to the others. This is just a fore-warning
Blimpz, Helicopters, PoW Camps, Lumberjacks, Snipers, Mortar Turrets, Infantry-Eating-Vehicles, ect. Those would all be lost
people need to be able to search the old posts in the suggestions forum so that they don't post the same stuff again. i predict a whole wave of old bad ideas brought back up if the suggestions forum gets culled. it only uses bandwidth if it's actually used anyway, and usage is exactly what we want.
It would be a good idea to just zip up the suggestions forum and have volunteers encode it into the feature list format. Then reformat the suggests forum. Then require anyone posting a suggestion to be a member of the forum for at least 1 month.
We seriously need to clean out the crap in this forum. For example, ban info threads should be saved by the mods and then deleted when not needed.
thats the job of the mods, SgtMuffin is just saying that the forum is moving hosts, no data should be lost(i assume this because it isnt a hard process to export the tables and Muffin knows what he is doing)
imo forums should always be kept clean. Even if you remove only those topics that serve absolutely no purpose (outdated, wrong, unwanted and locked, ...) you'll at least free some hdd space and make sure that people who are searching for answers are not sent to some 5 year old topic with complete outdated and wrong information. This will also save bandwidth cause the search function will lead a lot faster to a usefull topic. But after all these years this isn't possible anymore. There's just too many topics and the one who would have to do it would have to read all of them just to be sure there's nothing of any value in it.
This forums has like 3 years of crap on it. That's gotta be at least 30-40 mb's of un neccessary text. scratch that, better idea. Make like 5 books out of it. 1 book per section. each thread is a chapter. Leave the spelling errors, add an index of interesting topics and page #'s.
