Really rather good, and delightfully minimalist cover too.

It's OK, he's jewish. And the book is hilarious.

Yeah I imagine it is, I just didn't really think anyone would write it.

It also explains why it hasn't been translated, I don't imagine much of the humour would work too well. Sadly it often doesn't translate well, especially if the author is good.

You can't do wordplay or anything across languages, it sucks. And anything that requires cultural context tends to fall flat as well.

I agree about the translations. It's really hit-and-miss. I danced in the streets when they started including English audio in video games.

About this guy, I'm not sure. First of all, he wasn't just jewish, he was Israeli, and while he did speak German, I doubt he wrote it in German or for the German market.
If you couldn't guess from the title, by the way, the plot is essentially the history of the Third Reich with bald people instead of jews. I don't think you need intimate knowledge with history (I sucked at it in school). Definitely not knowledge of what's in Mein Kampf.

Lord of the Rings was such an undry book, man the minas tirith battle was such an awesome chapter. Council of Elrond was a pretty gay part though.

9 stories is an awesome collection of salinger's short stories, I read it once back in grade school and I could still tell you the plots to 3 or 4 of the stories. Definitely check that one out.
