Community-Made Mod This game requires that you own a Source engine game such as Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2, or Day of Defeat: Source. Click here for a full list of games that meet this requirement. Please note that Portal: First Slice and the bundled Half-Life 2: Deathmatch do not fulfill this requirement. Click here to learn more about mods on Steam. According to the steam page, installing Empires requires you to own one of a long list of games, some of which are free. But as far as I can tell, this is not the case. However, I have a rather weird setup on both PCs for development work. Can anyone verify that without owning any of those games, you can still install Empires mod? If so, I will contact Valve to have this tag removed, as it makes the mod less accessible.
I "heard" that you only need Source SDK or what to install Empires, and SDK is free. But I haven't tested it myself.
I don't think source sdk mods need ownership of any game any more. The steam page needs some work to bring it up to date, most notably the game hub button goes to the half life 2 hub instead of the empires one.
That hasn't been true ever since TF2 went f2p and brought the SDK with it. In other words, the page is neglected and inaccurate.
I've contacted Valve multiple times for this and never got a response. It's really something set on their side, I've gone through the Steamworks settings over and over.
Its doable... this was a dead and buried subject long ago. We had a new short term member sign up and tell us that last time we asked.
I think the error is in that the store page also says we are a HL2 mod, not a source sdk game. I've sent an email to Valve which I have some faith in. While we are fixing the steam page - it says "award winning" - was that the modDB award? Link, anyone?
Iam pretty sure it was a mod of some year. Just not sure of any link. unless its this? http://www.moddb.com/mods/empires/features/mods-of-2006-players-choice edit: or check this http://forums.empiresmod.com/showthread.php?t=4019 got no time to read right now
