i noticed the nomatter how much damage the explosion does the size is the same. e.g. a mortar shell has the same explosion size of a grenade, but the mortar does way more damage. can you fix this:confused:

it's a cosmetic change that is hopefully going to be addressed once the gameplay is sorted out.

I think explosion effects could use more attention in general. All Source explosions I've seen or heard are like "poof" and sound very weak and uninteresting. We need big fireballs, sparks, flying dirt and concrete pieces, fuckloads of smoke, and a loud KABOOM!

    (Explosions start at ~1 mins)

That's what Empires should sound like!!

Fuckloads of smoke? I hate that already on turrets when they die, it makes my fps die when i'm right next to them.

Well decrease the amount of smoke sprites and make them thicker and bigger.

I saw flying dirt for the first time in the HL1 mod The Trenches. Ever since playing TT I've always felt something is missing with the explosion effects in other games...

You know its funny that you should mention that, I've been toying with explosions much to this poor Jeep's dismay. This is the best effect I've found so far but its not right, I dont want to have to draw these suckers out, custom explosions for each vehical would be possible if I can come up with a good max solution.

    Jeep Go Boom

Duke has a large number of explosions but me and him arent real sure what file to replace in order to get them in game...

Explosions are sprites, used with sounds.

are you sure that they're sprites? so they're 2d?

I'm fairly sure they're not, otherwise it would look like the explosions in HL1, with no depth, and looking crap from the top down.

I think explosions are sprite-based, as opposed to model-based. They are obviously more complicated than the 2D HL explosions, but they essentially use flat images.

That concept looks awesome! Could use some bright yellow though. If vehicles exploded like that and there was a couple of flames and some smoke coming out of the wreckages, alike the wreckage props used in the maps... *fapfapfap*

The fireball and smoke effects consist of multiple sprites. In HL1, there was just one fireball and one smoke sprite, hence it looked 2D. What, did you think the explosions were 3D models or something?

    thats our new nuke animation.

We know the explosions are sprites but we dont know where the files to replace them live.

You should see the full Jeep explosion, the fire dosent look that outstanding but the animation is awsome, Reactor FTW.

A nuke is a diffrent animal, we'll have to make a model for that and conjure evil spirits from the 9th dimension of crazy special effects that havnt been coded. I cant do that, Im a Christian.

You can find out the location of materials using Hammer's material browser.
