First things first, seems like i turned out to be in the wrong so im publicly apologising for the drama i caused in the dev forums and on ts3 i was panicking about certain things certain people said while certain people didn't seem to be bothered about this or by certain shady certain sources checking, while those certain people seemed quite clear on how bad it was going to be seems not only it was all ungrounded, (including my panics...) but also it seems that empiresmod for steam is going to be the best fucking release ever after all stability wise communication errors and doom thinking aside, i had a nice chat with mootant concerning the new version and he reassured me that 63% of the crashes are engine related and thus not fixable all other major bugs seem to be fixed or at least under way to be fixed by the time valve replies and the steam release actually goes through (as in, i didnt really understood it correct, i thought mootant somehow mailed valve the deposit to go on steam with all the bugs inside) i learned a valuable lesson, being that if there is a problem debated take it to the person involved first... then start complaining publicly... i would like to add that i still think mootant is unfit to be a lead dev in multiple ways, and that trickster or anyone else with "some" leadership capabilities should take that job but that is for another day... lets first get empires successfully on steam, what is a good steam release without a fuckton of empiresmod drama... amirite? now, without further making me look like even more of an ass (but its noteworthy this is only fair to mootant, since i treated him unjust... just want to state that again) the crash report thingy: 28309426 hl2.exe studiorender.dll 0 0.909% 1 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 0F7E599D : Attempt to read from virtual address 57390476 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-27 14:24:57 28316143 hl2.exe engine.dll 0 0.909% 1 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 101AD23A : Attempt to read from virtual address 4 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-28 16:46:06 28331567 hl2.exe 10776674 1.818% 2 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 765FB727 : UNKNOWN 2011-01-30 18:10:53 28309577 hl2.exe 0 3.636% 4 3 0 Win32 StructuredException at 00000000 : Attempt to read from virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-30 18:11:40 28301342 hl2.exe kernelbase.dll 650118666 14.545% 16 3 0 Win32 StructuredException at 7510B727 : UNKNOWN 2011-01-26 11:21:05 28315134 hl2.exe client.dll 0 0.909% 1 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 181E9A50 : Attempt to write to virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-28 12:46:51 28278755 hl2.exe engine.dll 0 30.000% 33 28 0 Win32 StructuredException at 100DCCFB : Attempt to read from virtual address 40 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-31 12:41:04 28302793 hl2.exe kernelbase.dll 88321196 0.909% 1 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 75A7B727 : UNKNOWN 2011-01-26 12:14:16 28309484 hl2.exe kernel32.dll 381286637 4.545% 5 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 7C812AFB : UNKNOWN 2011-01-29 15:578 28291509 hl2.exe engine.dll 0 5.455% 6 5 0 Win32 StructuredException at 0FA9569F : Attempt to read from virtual address 4 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-28 12:25:42 28303061 hl2.exe client.dll 0 0.909% 1 1 0 Win32 StructuredException at 1664D342 : Attempt to write to virtual address 6 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-26 13:04:26 28309629 hl2.exe materialsystem.dll 0 3.636% 4 2 0 Win32 StructuredException at 0E5A3814 : Attempt to write to virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights. 2011-01-30 18:26:54 take note all the ZERO comma XXXXX ones everything "engine.dll" = valve herpe derped sticky plz?
lol... "Mootant is doing everything correctly, he just doesn't keep me well informed. He is unfit for being a lead dev as he is keeping everything moving forwards!" is what I read. I think what you expect from mootant is unrealistic. Even if he doesn't communicate well, there is no need for the level of communication you seem to what. I'd rather have him developing the game than writing a manuscript about the game development. From my understanding, everyone that works on empiresmod has a real life and real jobs to take care of as well.
You still don't have it correct. You take it to the person. Then if that doesn't work, you take it to the rest of the people on the team. Going public is a last resort that has the least chance of being effective and the greatest chance of being destructive.
But Krenzo's referring to what you're doing now by bringing the issue out to us (the general people of Empires) to see. Person (M00tant(?)), Team (Dev forums), Public (Pub forums).
Actually it's supposed to be a public apology, but it contains some opinions and criticims as well but now people are confused why he posted it :p Read it like this: APOLOGY bolded line CRITICISMS
im sorry if its confusing, i wrote it while being drunk my dad was diagnosed to not be on this earth for another month any longer and things got too much for me on the mental part i took a real and valid problem with the dev team out of context and worked it out on others unjustified hence why this was a public apology, but im trying to salvage this cluster fuck to at least also chart the problems that are real and present
Condolences blizzerd. To be honest dev teams are usually filled with socially awkward geek types, so it's not surprising that they are a source of drama.
If anyone didn't realise already, Empires basically runs on drama anyway. All those periods where development has been non-existent have also had no drama. Coincidence? I THINK NOT.
Is this like every (steam)cloud has a silver lining? But for everything else that can't be solved by a witty quip, this may give you some comfort: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcQ3iegpZTc
