Yo yo yo forum-people. Trying to start up a discussion about a possible Empires tournament for next year or even Christmas if hurried properly. Checked the first page of search so kickban and delete if old. Do we have enough players for the tournament? Empires has been around quite a while and I'm sure many people could perhaps take and learn it if competitive tournament gaming is introduced and perhaps some oldies might come back to teach us newbies if given the chance. But what is your opinion? Do you see Empires as having enough clans that can muster up and organize hefty number of players to fight on prescheduled times? Are there enough 'good' clans so they give enough competition to each other? (Omg! Epic-staxxx). Casual player base is quite large and if comparing to Savage2 which already had some tournaments with even a smaller player count it could be very viable if people goes through the trouble of organizing themselves. Is the game suitable for competitive gaming? Hell yea! The game is balanced, most maps are balanced and the diversity of tactics possible will surely spawn some weird-ball clans. Although the upcoming new version introduces a lot of changes to the gameplay if I'm correct, so there might be some issues in the game version itself which hinders the ability to launch a tournament (it's better to use the most recent version always, resolving to multi-version is both annoying and difficult). Even with the newest additions to the game, which are only matter of learning, there shouldn't be any obstructions for the game to not be tournament-playable. What is needed to organize such a tournament? Servers of course, I don't think this one is a problem since there are many with wide admin/mod support. Referees, some trustworthy individuals selected by the community -who are not participating in the tournament- need to be watching each and every game, being present there if something goes wrong or ban-hammer needs to be introduced. Complex web paging is not a necessity, simple graph showing the progress of the tournament and all the required information in one neat package is enough. Clans will need to have a place to organize themselves, but that is left for them to build and manage. Lastly the organizer himself who manages all the registrations, days and updates. Me being such a no-life, knowing little bit of everything and being the primus-motor of this can raise my hand to this position. List of things to conside: Fixed player count or as clans agree? Which maps? Also there could be a small secondary tourney for escort maps. No spectators apart from the referees. Warmup needs a small change, game is launched by the referee. The assignment of brackets. Pure random, warmup matches or closed registration? Call for exploit. If game pause is possible would be great so the game can continue once the situation is cleared. Better than forcing a forfeit or rematch automatically.
Meh, when 2.2 gets going, the LEAGUE might get revived, and then things would be pretty cool. Tournaments are generally for clans, so just put a clan or team together and train with them for now.
but the thing is, clans are for failures true players don't NEED TO train hours and hours a day like noobs would to play good
The League is a form of clan tournament (though I think its dead at the moment). You might be able to organize a pubber tournament in this manner: 1. Set up a series of matches (map, day, time) 2. Allow up to 12 people (10 players, 2 alternates per side) to sign up for each side 3. Play the match Win = 1 pt for everyone on the winning side Loss = 0 pt for everyone on the losing side 4. Every player can only play 10 rounds that count to their score 5. In the event of ties (i.e. multiple people with 10 pts), you play tie-breaking rounds until you have a winner.
Would be fun to set up teams. They don't have to be in the same clan but it really doesn't matter so if you want a team full of your clan members ,go for it. But if you want a team with some of the best pubbers around you can do that also
I want that community league project in which everyone that takes part signs up for brenodi or northern faction and they then battle for regions on a map. Of course someone needs to look that the teams are not to inbalanced
This has all been suggested before. We really wanted to do this before league season 2 but instead we were rushed into it and JPL just raped all the clans. And the PUGS were never put together by rampantandriod because he became too busy. Still a great idea that I support. Get pubbers and clanners together in teams for organized epic matches. There was talk about setting up 2 forums for each faction to discuss tactics and all that crap.
they should act like the in the dark crusade campgain, and have it turn based. Also the reason why clans won't work, as there are only a few clans, and clans usualy becomes whores and have hundreds of members. A community project would be better.
We used to train, and why is that? Because we accepted a lot of people who had non-existent skill and we were a training clan. Btw, I would say some of Epic need training too, but then you guys have a bunch of people not that interested in learning the game, and that just want to spread falsehoods to newbies. I mean seriously, some of the stuff that I hear from you guys, who should all be vet standard by now is appalling. It wouldn't take much for there to be 4 core empires clans, but you're just not interested.
Lol, agreed Uhm, just because I want to wash a dirty car sometimes doesnt mean Im an idiot. It means I want things tidy and clean boy EDIT: You are in the same clan as daruk and tell other clans to be more adult?
what ever happen to not starting a flaming war? well back to the subject. could go i there way, i like the ider of a NF and BE war and the progress is shown on the map BUT that would mean either putting the maps we have on the map or making new maps and either don't. look nice. i say stick to a clan vs clan and some teams for you anarchists.
I didn't get the metaphor. Also...nah who am I kidding, i'm still a boy Actually, I told you that you could be better at the game, not more adult. But I could tell you to be more adult too if you want. Ofc, it's not up to me whether Dar is in the clan or not, but I would say we have ONE person like that in our clan, which seems to be a triumph compared to some others.
Daruck is the most mature person I have ever met. Every time he enters a server he politely introduces him self, cant get more mature than that amirite GO GO CW
Nice idea Scardybob and Mayama, I was thinking of making a progress map too. Have to look into how to arrange a public league with the progress something like as scardybob suggested, but wouldn't there be an inherent problem if lots of newcomers join one side? Then again, probably newcomers haven't even looked much into arranged games and we can be on the safe side. Other thing I'm a bit worried, but it could also prove to be a cool meta-game part as people can discuss on what side they are going to join beforehand. This can help to balance out teams, but it could also just make the stacking more severe. Also what to do if the teams are uneven? Quick-draft some random players?
