Empires Fan calls for HELP!

    As you might think when reading the title of this thread,I got a problem!

    I'll make it short:

    I dont know exactly how long,but I think I have this "bug" for a couple of weeks now.

    I played empires since the first release,I experienced lag and crashed,just like all the other,but nothing similar like freezing near completly ever occured.

    So I start Empires,find a nice server [BSID] or what ever they are called.... nice 24 player server,jump into the action....but soon,after about 6-7minutes (this is not specific just guessing) the game freezes,normaly I would press the "Reset" Button loacted at the front of my Computer,but I wait and still beeing frozen,ever 10 to 20 seconds I get a "new frame" sounds are ofcourse repeating themselves all the time....

    I can even (takes some time) press ESC and then disconnect,but guess what,even now the game doesnt run smoothly anymore,its still "half-frozen" take me a minute to press Quit and then OK

    I am running an:

    AMD Athlon 64 3200
    1024MB RAM
    Radeon 9800 Pro
    DirectX ver. 9.0c (August)
    Windows XP PRO

    I am able to run every HL2 mods smoothly with at least AA/AF 2x 1024x768 and everything on "High"


    Might be helpfull:>>> I do experience the same problem sometimes (really exactly the same) when playing Iron Grip.


    Does anyone know what I can do??????????

    Your graphic card driver probably crashed. It's sometimes able to restart itself, other times it will just freeze up completely. Is your computer case hot? Try opening it up from the side and playing like that.

    Since I play games like Fear without troubles and without freezes I dont think thats the case,I will update my drivers though anyway ;)


    I just played,and I freezed up again ^^

    I also uploaded the crash report,maybe that helps ?

    I got this too previously then I dropped the texture quality down to medium. I too have a radeon 9800 pro and I only experience this with IG, Empires and DooM III. I think that some texture shaders and ATI drivers don't work too well with 9800 pro chipset...

    i have the same symptoms, but because they only occure when for the first 30secs-1min of a map, i think its lag.

    Nah,I think you misinterpreted something.
    Its not those 5-10seconds when a new map is loaded and you experience a little lag,most people have that,thats pretty normal,it fades after a few seconds,just some things that aren't preloaded yet.

    It freezes,but I can still leave the game without using CTRL-ALT-DEL
    I can even press >>Disconnect<< which ends the actual game I am playing!!
    So there are NO textures or anything like that that needs to be rendered.
    But it's still frozen,the menu,and it refreshes every 15 seconds and keep repeating sounds while doing that O.o

    I just updated my driver and Catalyst Driver Center,maybe that helps...

    i got a 9800 pro to, and it runs everything perfectly on high :)
    but yeah, uppdate all the drivers and see if that solves annything

    I'm running on the latest. :( Didn't help. I even tried Omegas(actually running on them atm as they seem to work the best). It seems that some angles in some maps give it always(not with medium settings).

    :D I've had this problem for a long long time. It's there even after a clean format. So defragging wouldn't help...

    God I wish I got my linux installation working properly. Linux filesystem fragments extremely rarely and some things just work better on that side. I just fucked up my installation by changing things by hand that should've left unchanced and I did the biggest error of all... not backing up. :D

    I crashed again today,this time my whole comp. broke down ^^

    I again uploaded the crash log,plz for God Sake,someone check that thing or tell me how I can use it :(


    >>>> I also found out that everytime I crash or freeze, some sort of red Warnings appear in the console of Empires saying : too many faces on vehicle_factory or something like that,I will try to make a screenshot of that.

    I want to enjoy playing Empires,not crash or freeze the whole time -.-

    I'll crank up my settings and try to get some screenies. Although I'm fairly certain that this is a driver issue, but if you can find something in maps that causes it...

    Back again with some Input...

    I frooze again,but this time I managed to make a "screenshot" (Fraps wasn't working anymore,so I took a photo with my mobile phone:rolleyes: ) of this Warning I mentioned in my last post.

    " Unable to apply decals to model (Imperial/Buildings/VehicleFactory/imp_vehicleFactory.mdl),it has more than 255 unique meshes!"

    That ALWAYS appears when I crash/freeze,can anyone tell me what's that all about?

    Yes I did,its very helpfull,thank you.

    It really increased performance a lot :)

    But I still freeze or crash every time I try to play...

    Can't anyone one tell me how to use these mdmp files or tell me what it says ?

    Okay,I am getting there...

    In option under advanced settings I turned down:

    Building Detail: Medium
    Texture Detail: Medium
    Reflections: only world
    Shader Detail: low


    I played for one hour without crashing/freezing ONCE!!!

    I then changed some details to make the game look more pretty:


    Building Detail: Medium
    Texture Detail: Medium
    Reflections: everthing
    Shader Detail: high

    It still ran fine without crashing/freezing.

    After I then changed Texture detail to High,it frooze again....

    Any thoughts?

    Your card probably freezes because your card memory is completely full. Happened to me with Oblivion and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines

    But shouldn't I experience this kind of crash more often if the card memory can't handle such texture load?

    Are you sure this is the problem? I mean,I can play any other Source game except Iron Grip without troubles. Doom 3 had texture quality to high also.

    This doesnt make any sense?! Radeon 9800 Pro shouldn't crash running Empires with high textures, there are serveral other players playing with that card and they dont get the same problem running empires...

    I am so confused :mad:
