What the fuck. Really. I'm so sick of waiting for a free slot on a full server. (When it is the only populated server / not laggy server) When I finally get a free slot, I see 10+ people fucking around in spec with excuses like "I don't feel like playing". WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU IN GAME THEN?! The spec disabling on EU main isn't enough, as people just stay in unassigned. It's not Chatpires. Use IRC / Ventrilo / Steam if you really need to connect with your friends.
Get in contact with an admin of that specific server(all the main servers have a reserve/admin slot) to clear out a servers afkers/non-participators when the server gets full. If they do nothing then it's pretty much the server staff's fault. Try populating a lesser populated server if it's that much of an issue, small games on some of the maps are rather fun(if the small handful of skilled players on that server don't dogpile the nublets).
U can get a reserved slot on vipers for 5$. seriously, atleast viper has a rule to kick unassigned and even spec when server has more than 48 "players" in the server.
I can see your argument when certain people, for instance eth0 (although he plays on his own server now), or like pickled heretic or something, don't play at all and sit in spec for like 2-4 hours talking about things like weed, open source, and trickster/mootant. But it's nice to chill in spec after some 3 or 4 rounds.

signed getting drunk, listening to eth0s soft brit voice, watching newbies fail, ... spec is more entertaining than playing a stacked game or the 999,999,999,999th game on slaughtered/canyon/district.
its ok to spec a round if you dont like the map, i dont find it ok if you block a spot of a possible player just because you have no friends irl. a plugin that i described in my previous post would really be handy ...
If the possible players have friends IRL, maybe they should fuck off and meet some of them. If anything, people with no friends IRL should be a priority if admins have any amount of empathy.
yes admins should help you get some by making you not idle in spec ... if the server is full that is ofc, noone cares if you idle when theres 10slots left.
It's like the IRL bars, pubs etc. where you drink beer and watch TV with sport channel and discuss anything with your friends or the random guys next to you. There is no wrong in that, especially after work on fridays. But in Pubpires it is priority that people join to the game to play it. Totally agreed with the rule VIPER server has.
As much as it does suck sometimes, to see so many Specs in game, the fact remains that it has almost inherently become one of the games main features. It's one of its strongest pros actually IMO, the relationships formed in spec well... some times they don't always stay in spec! You just have to accept, that like WoW's /1 chat, Spec is Empires 3D IRC chatroom, and that's not going to change while this mod stays afoot.
