For the past few days, Empires has refused to startup for me. It makes it to the main menu, the background appears, but right when it is about to make the menu text appear it crashes.

I attempted to debug and find the position in the stack causing the error:

It seems it is something in scenefilecache.dll. Crash MDMP files are included.

    PC Specs:
    Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
    intel Quad Core 3.0GHz Processor
    2GB DDR2 RAM
    nVidia 7950GTX 512MB Video RAM
    500GB HDD
    HP mx705 Monitor at 1152 x 862 resolution

    Empires Mod Version: 2.1 + 2.11 Hotfix

NOTE: This occured with 2.12 as well. A friend of mine told me it might be an error with 2.12 so I removed Empires completely, did a fresh install, error still occured. Installed 2.11, error still occured. I restarted Steam, my computer, and manually restrated explorer.exe a few times to no avail. I have all Source SDK Base and Source SDK tools installed, so that isn't the problem.

    Thanks for any help.

    There is your problem.
Until there is SP1 for Vista or Krenzo fixes the error, we are kinda screwed.

But I have never had this problem before. I have used Empires since the second it was released. Until 3 days ago when this suddenly started happening.

Did you update your drives, install a game, change settings in Steam or in your PC's configuration screen? Did you add, remove or change hardware?

Not at all. Nothing was changed, except for I installed the Audiosurfe Demo, which I did notice to cause some Steam errors, hence causing me to delete CLientRegistery.blob and the Appwhateverthenameis.blob files

I restarted and not only did it not fix it, it got worse. None of my Half Life 2 based mods (Missign Information, SMOD, Empires, etc) work...this is strange.

Have you run through my Vista thread for fixes? It isn't a vista related issue, as I have never seen similar problems. Vista related issues will be totally resolved if your version of vista is up to date.
