Last night (as of time of posting) a few of us in-game where discussing past, present and future maps and the (untimely) demise of emp_sinking came up. In chatting with empires mappers about what could be done to enhance this now elusive map, things like using the env_shake to create earthquake in tandem with the sinking ground (actually rising water). Then we got on the the subject of what could be done to OrangeBoxify(tm) the the concept (for the upcoming Empires 2.2) and the joint suggestion of an OB particle spewing volcano sprung to mind! Hopefully the guys i where chatting with will see this thread and comment, but they seemed up for the idea of developing such a map. Cheers
Mappers can't introduce their own particle effects. It would have to be added to Empires particles (not a big problem).
Eth0: wouldnt it be cool if that sinking map went all shaky when the water rises? Bumgravy: Yeah thats really easy. Eth0: omfg someone should make a volcano map Bumflan: Ive always told Bumgravy he should make a volcano map. BumGravy: Ok Ill make a volcano map. M00tant: We need an NF escort map. Bumgravy: OK NF escort up the volcano and when Eth0 says "empires mappers" he means me and Omneh, lul. Edit Almost forgot: Bumgravy: OK NF have to escort their CV to the top of the volcano and suicide it before BE can kill it M00tant: Bumgravy no cv
I remember getting the idea of having a vehicle escort up a volcano several years ago, but the biggest problem i found was being unable to climb up the hill.
Map design is left to the mapper. If you have map ready and want to add your particle effects to Empires ask. Capturing flags is better objective than escorting a single vehicle that is very easy to destroy with squad artillery.
maby there should be no time limit but the lava flows down the volcano and nf have to get to teh bottem of the hill capping all flags on they way before they get overrun with lava
I tried that when i made the blasted thing the first time - I hadn't quite got the hang of one or other of the bits (not sure if it was the trigger or the shake entity) but gave up after it didn't work. There were a few more issues than lacking shake, like it not being a very good map and people having noticed that...
