http://dl.dropbox.com/u/331067/emp_stalemate/emp_stalemate_rc2_vmf.7z (includes the vmf, feel free to use this map as you wish as long as you credit me for its creation. you are not allowed to rename it, except for version numbers)

    versions:
    • b1, b2, b3 - non public releases, minor fuckups but it was shipped to a few betatesters
    • rc1 - semipublic beta test at the CW-sever
    • rc2 - current version (unless some major error, for at least a month)

fixes/alterations/todo for future versions (to be updated)
    rc3:
    • beautify the cliffs
    • add more ground-textures and overlays
    • 3d skybox (maybe, it would only be seen by the comm anyway)
    • one-way infantry tunnels that let you get out of the startbase even if locked in by the enemy
    • more ref spots (not sure, but possible)

    please post feedback.

Looks pretty bland from a stylistic point of view, thought about making it a different terrain? Another desert map perhaps?

I'll give it a shot if I see it in a cycle.

ill pretty the terrain up as soon as it plays out well, but i cant stand fighting in deserts no more (not neccesary empires fault)
also there are no prop clusters for deserts afaik ... ;)

theres plenty of rock-props on this map already. making it only rocks wouldnt make look it less bland.
my question for feedback wasnt so much about the visual look - i know it looks quite basic - but about gameplay aspects (i know its hard to tell for those who didnt play it yet)

neat looking map. im sure this would make for the classic stalemate game of empires as the title suggests.

Nice map Flasche, looks simple yet fresh.

I haven't played your map yet and I'm speculating from your SS only, but the map looks a bit flat.

Any chance you could add just some rolling hills on spots in the canyon. Nothing too big, but just slight rolls to give the terrain some dimension. Though I understand this might not be possible because of room needed for building placement

Also some water in the form of even small ponds/creeks would add a lot of atmosphere and dimension to the map.

I'm saying this after only viewing the SS. So my apologies for not playing the map completely first.

    And very nice work.

I like these kind of tug of war maps, similar to canyon if you know what I mean, where if you get pushed back you can set walls up at the nearest forest and pile of rocks. what server is willing to play it yet and when cause I really wanna try this.

hehe silk actually said he likes how theres those hills you are talking about. no worries, they are there. the ground is only flat where it needs to be for placing buildings (empires is really unforgiving when it comes to that)

Yes Krazer, it only looks flat from the minimap. It's actually quite hilly in most places.

Something like ponds/creeks to break up the map is always nice, but it would be very hypocritical if i said something about that ^^

this flat area in the background is the only expansion spot outside your base area where you can place a VF ...

naming a map "stalemate" is like naming a child "retard"

odd, it worked fine on the CW server (but i noticed some other maps fucked up there)

i hate hammer, i hate source, i hate mapping for empires ...

    H A T E !

    edit:
ill just release my current halfwhat updated rc3, so all the other changes will be rc4 (ill edit the OP)
look for it again in about 2h, fucking shit you have to do for custom maps, srsly, ill only use std textures anymore :blargh:

i hope blight get his .res-thingy working soon ...

    edit2:
ok nothing is lost. so far only vicki put it on servers and there was noone on vipers. so ill just updated the 2 7z's and you gotta wait for rc3 longer :P

With only looking at the minimap i can say:

    - this map has potential! could be a great map for public games (aka slaughtered mkII)
    - add more flat area, so base building in the middle is easy for new comms
