Correction: you can spawn a CV after players have joined teams and it won't fuck things up. The game currently auto detects if there is a CV and sets the game mode. This should be fixed code wise and set up in the emp_info_params to set a specific game type.
I believe, without having looked at the win condition code in a long while, it only checks if a commander vehicle has been destroyed, and only if it was destroyed. If one commander vehicle is created and the other not, the condition is still 'if a command vehicle is destroyed', ergo, creating one CV will probably play. I don't know the outcome of vote system though, I'll look into that.
Well considering with appropriate commands you can have a comm on escort... Yes comms are safe. Although I don't know what happens to the other team during comm vote time, or the guy who gets voted in (assuming you can actually vote)
It doesn't play the map if both teams don't start with a com, but if you spawn a com after the map starts but before anyone joins a team, it will do a map vote during the regular pregame time. I dunno, it's buggy.
It worked fine for me just now in 2.24b. Not sure what Metal_Smith encountered, but it must have been a bug. =P If you're voted in as com and there's no command vehicle, you spawn in the barracks.
Yes that map is a win, I hoped such maps will come up, only prob i see is that ppl will find ways to destroy the sam sites if they are not invulnerable until the tunnel opens, also I like the story much, ofc not for a short ingame description but for mapintroduction, !!yes!! But needs ingame texthints what to do @what stage or new players will just wonder why they lost
Once the explosive timer starts ticking, the train won't pass. If it begins passing just as the explosive timer is set, the train will get over before the explosive goes off.
Damn, I can't find a good way to use displacements to make the mountains. Any displacement experts here?
For the sort of thing you're doing, a heightmap technique would probably work fine. Just raise them up to the height you want. Or, lower everything else down, which would give you a different curve shape.
sometimes using the "Raise to" tool with the Displacement painter (I do it non spacially, with 5 units radius, black dot with 5 at the bottom of the list.) Then smooth the edges a tad bit at the bottom and top, it gives a good plateau effect. If you do it in steps of 100 units or so, it tends to work well to make terrain unclimbable but still not too stretched. Just remember that the lowest a displacement should be anywhere on the map should be "0". If a displacement goes down into negatives, and shares an edge with a positive displacement, hammer does some pretty funky things. The best way to figure out how you want to make it is to make some practive mountains in hammer and some rivers next to them to see how they react with each other. I would recommend trying to put a hole in one part and have a cliff next to it, just to see what happens when you try to smooth between the two.
